My light is cold white, My output has not dropped much i measured mine at about 2250 lumens at the start. now its around 2100 lumens. Is the figure right? I am not sure but lux when doing the test has not dropped much at all.
Slicing is different from de-doming you should be able to retain most lumens but you won’t get as much throw. Some one else in a older post on this thread gained like 30kcd then me by fully dedoming the SST40.
I have 1mm thick nylon washers that i used to slice the dome so its fairly close to the limit but you could still go a tad lower.
I don’t know about that. As far as lumens and throw, the results of slicing and dedoming should be about the same since your removing the magnifying effect of the dome. The difference between the techniques should really be more about small differences in the tint. Hopefully someone with more experience in both techniques can confirm.
This where slicing differs because you can go down to different depth where as if we dedome it will always be the same. If me and you where to slice a dome it probably wouldn’t be the same unlike if we properly dedome a LED.
This has been proven on here that slicing isn’t as effective for throw probably for this reason because differing amount of dome still remain. Not to mention that it might not be even/flat or it could have ridges that act like smaller domes after slicing or sanding.
Where as if it was a proper dedomed LED it will always be a flat surface over the phosphate layer because nothing remains.
Also i think RMM done test with sliced SST40 and got good output by slicing but i wouldn’t have a clue where to find the thread.
I don’t think you need the gasket just cover the wires with electrical tape? Seeing as the reflector sits so low now it will work fine. You could even put tape over the whole board if it helps you sleep better lol. The gasket must be less than 1mm thick i think my washer was thicker.
Why didn’t i think of that earlier lol its just a nylon washer lol. What about if you buy some M20 nylon washers?
Okay i am back to update my thesis i found some M24 nylon washers they seem to be the closest common sized nylon washers. I will see if i can find some cheaper ones.
Main reason I want a new gasket is for proper centering - I’ve noticed that as I screw the bezel back on the reflector floats around a bit, would be nice to lock it in, like how the flipped-up bits on the stock one does. Or maybe I need to get one made like this by somewhere good (found a few places with good printers, the one at work isn’t so good):
This seller has M14 washers which are 14mm inner diameter so a bit big but the outer diameter is 22mm so close to stock and its 1.2mm thick. Seeing as they come in a pack of 10 you could get a second one and cut a ring out and create a ridge on another washer by melting them or gluing them together? You could even glue in another washer of a smaller size to make the inner diameter correct.
My light did not come with the instructions. What is the discreet mode level? If I changed into that mode instead of ramping, will I get turbo in the mode sequence? I would just like turbo to be top of ramp or in the mode sequence to I can have brightest mode with a single click from off. Is this possible with this light?
