Nahh, I want real brass because of the way it wears. They may look pretty similar when new but if you actually use the thing, the difference becomes obvious over time. Real brass wears in like a well-used tool. Coated aluminum, no matter how well coated, eventually just looks beat up.
Thanks. I figured it out. I was at work when it happened so i was a little frustrated and I almost lost that plastic piece. But when I got home and the battery was dead it was simple how to figure how to fix it. But I put a little blue locktite on it to prevent that from happening and i did the same to the one I’m going to give to my little brother, because i wouldn’t want that to happen to him and possibly lose those pieces.
Got mine today!! Nice lights, but I think I like anodized more. I would love this light in copper, brass, or while we’re at it… why not bronze? I never hear about bronze lights.
Silver has a tendency to tarnish, and removing that tarnish is quite hard for most people.
Copper is super easy.
Also, while a copper plated light would cost 20$US in rather small quantities with a thick copper layer, a silver one would have a much thinner layer for say 25$US.
I’m a big fan of copper, even though it’s heavy, brass too. I like the way they age (patina ), and bronze would too.
I’m still pretty new to “the life” but do wonder why I haven’t seen any bronze lights.
If we’re plating…why not rhodium?
If you are going to go the special metals route, I would suggest more than 2 modes. I like CU, but would not purchase for the premium for a 2 mode light.
I’m happy with simplicity. As I said, I’d love to see the original C01 in Ti. I’m flexible depending on the light but I normally don’t want more than three modes to cycle through. I prefer the modes to start low and I’ve come to appreciate not having mode memory. (There is a great thread on disliked or unwanted features over on CPF right now.) I prefer brass to Cu but I’ve also come to appreciate the lighter weight of Ti.
With all of these options and opinions being thrown around regarding finishes and materials, it seems like (1) we need to know what material & finishes Sofirn can reasonable accommodate, and then (2) maybe set up a poll to help determine those that are in highest demand (something like “pick your top 3 of these 10 options”).
