One penny mod for a Convoy C8 Holster.

In time I’ve collected more than a few C8 flashlights, mainly because I’ve swapped emitters.
Because I don’t keep them around for just being shelf queens, I bought some holsters for them.
From Simon. But I noticed it was quite troublesome to take the lights out because of a tight fit.

So I cut off the lower end of plastic shampoo bottles and “lined” the holsters with them.
The outside diameter of these bottles is about 2 inch (50.7mm).
The length of the cup I cut off is determined by the tightness of the eleastic fit.
If the elastic fit is tighter, I need a longer cup to take out/put in the light with some ease.
As the holsters are almost new I found that a 3 inch (75mm) high cup served me best.
By “lining” the holster you kill two birds with one stone: it protects the bezel from damaging.

I was planning to write this down in a thread about very cheap mod’s I’ve seen some time ago.
But I could not find it any more.

You are a flashaholic if you are forced to come out of the closet, to make room for more flashlights.

I’m so sorry, apparently EagleTac, Olight, Thrunite, and I are doing something wrong.

Seriously, my first objective was to protect my fluorescent yellow spraypainted C8 as good as possible Innocent
And the other holsters got a similar treatment.

Those holsters have a different construction and are made wide enough for bezel-down. That also makes them much bulkier and cumbersome when worn however.

I’ve never even seen a C8 in a holster carried lens-down. Didn’t even think it possible. Kinda like seeing some people who wear spandex who definitely should not wear spandex, I’d even wonder how it got wedged in there.

Damn.

Well, there is a first time for everything. Thought I share that with you. Won’t do that again.

That’s a neat idea, but won’t it leave the holster permanently stretched out after a while? Let us know if you continue using it, Henk Smile

Me? Wasn’t berating you or anything, just literally didn’t think it possible to stick a C8 in a holster lens-down, as that’d be one tight fit. Really tight fit. Like trying-to-squeeze-toothpaste-back-into-the-tube tight.

Even stretching a tubelight holster to fit the WK30 was a bit of a struggle.

I’m quite sure you were not berating me. Sorry, I was not in a top-of-the-world mood. Small stuff, but lots of it, going wrong. Like incoming and outgoing parcels that dropped off the radar. And it rained all day. First walk with the dog is okay. Afternoon walk gets a bit unconfortable. Evening walk is torture. To the mall in between. My house feels like a wet clothes recycling unit. Guess I was not in any shape to receive well-ment remarks.
But T&T starts showing proof of life after a week silence. She sun is shining again. And my clothes are dry.

The plus of wearing a light top-down in a holster is that the lens does not get dirty. The size (height) of the cup determines the tightness of the holster. Only the top fraction of the holster is tight. Below that is the cup, and that has no friction. If the elastics of the holster deteriorate after time, I’ll just cut off a piece of the cup, and “new” elastics take over.
