Hi folks, which of the PL47G2 LED options would be best for the most floody light and least bright spot or artifacts?
I want the head torch for fell running, ski touring and mountaineering. I would imagine this is similar requirements to mountain biking, e.g. enough light to move fast without a bright spot and artifacts that will dazzle and confuse.
I have a petzl Reactik+ which, despite care, has developed a crack and also it looks like Petzl have discontinued the batteries. My battery is beginning to show its age (18 months old, used at least twice a week). Petzl discontinued the battery for my previous Tikka xp2, their excuse being that I could always carry on with AAAs, which don’t really work in either torch. So, I’m feed up with Petzl’s lack of battery support so I’m moving on to standard battery torches. I gave up on rear battery packs years ago after many failures of the connecting wire.
The reactik+ wasn’t quite bright enough for moving fast anyway.
I have a Skilhunt H03 with the bubbled lens which is much better than the Reactik+.
Can I expect the PL47G2 to be as bright and floody as the H03?
Also, will the PL47G2 be stable enough on the head for running, or will I need a different cradle? Any suggestions?
Does the PL47G2 have a really low lumen mode for reading with, e.g. 1 lumin or similar to the low mode on the H03?
Thanks in advance for any answers or further advice.
PL47 will be brighter, and probably a bit throwier with most LEDs, you can change this with some “DC Fix” diffuser film on the lens.
The PL47 is much heavier than a Skilhunt H03, at least if using 21700 battery. I would expect it to bounce more for running or skiing. Dunno if a different headband would solve this.
