I wanted a burning laser in the pastâŚbut after research found if you catch a stray beam shot or even a âwall flashâ from one without glasses you could blind yourself or severely injure your retina.
I know if there was a clumsy way to burn my eyeballs because I wasnât wearing laser glasses or caught an accidental flash from it Iâd be the one to do it.
Eyes are importantâŚand you only get two of themâŚI wonât have a âtoyâ that could cause permanent blinding injury from a half second lapse of judgement or caution in my house.
Iâm sure they can be handled safelyâŚbut the risk can be great.
Burning lasers are fun but highly dangerous.
I built this tiny 1.6W 450nm titanium & copper keyring laser and it's scary! :D
You need suitable safety glasses, no messing about and not the ebay cheapo ones either.
But with using the glasses you can't see the beam, just the dot as that is how they work, blocking the light, which is a bummer but necessary for burning stuff or indoor use.
You can watch the beam outside without them so long as you don't reflect yourself or hit things you shouldn't.
Matches & balloons hit from around one metre. Lesser powered lasers wouldn't be so instantaneous.
Higher powered might set up the carpet :D
Ok, OK guys, omg, I will buy le freaking goggles too,
if, all her confirm you never accidentally blinded yourself with flashlight
Just kidding, I will get protective goggles as well, when I put them on I will be invisible to laZar beam
with those goggles James Bond movies would not be interesting at all, they could just walk across the room with hundreds-laser-beams-security-system and nothing would happen
Câmon guys, I am just looking for a toy that I could use to âzapâ bugs from safe distance
I donât want to burn my house together with half a city with flamethrowers, I am not looking for a laser to cut 2â hardened, titanium reinforced (saw that on aliexpress ) HSS or to slice walls like butter, just want to return some pain and suffering to this particular, super annoying and terribly stinky bug. It just loves to get everywhere and if you touch it, its bye bye Kansas, you can wash your hand for 2 days hoping to get rid of that âsmellâ.
Smoking black paper from 1 meter sounds just like what I need.
OR, if you heard for a flashlight collimator that can focus the beam of light to about 1mm and then keep it parallel, I could try that I guess,
if its 20$ or less
Same for me. I would love to play with âfire at a distanceâ with a nice powerful laser⌠but I know I would blind myself, my wife, my cats, and burn down my houseâŚ
We are not talking about making your eyes hurt for a few seconds.
We are talking about actual optical blindnessâŚas in you burn/damage your retinas permanently and cause actual: âOMG! I CANâT SEE!â (FOREVER!)
Please research this danger on the internet!
Your eye is basically a thin skin with jelly in it. If you catch a flash from this laser without goggles you can burn the cells in your retina permanently and there is no medical treatment for this. It can be as bad as staring at the sun. If it can light a match or burn tape it will burn your retina. Your retina is no where near as robust as a piece of electrical tape or even a rubber balloon!
It is not like a flashlight where you shine it in your eyes and you see a green spot for a few minutes and then it goes awayâŚACTUAL BLINDNESS!
Burning lasers can be handled safely, but just know a careless accident can cause a permanent loss of visionâŚNOT THE SAME AS LOOKING AT A FLASHLIGHT!
Not trying to scare you, but inform youâŚbe cautious!
