After patiently waiting for two months (it was a pre-order, after all), it shipped. And unexpectedly, they upgraded me to DHL shipping! That was a nice surprise.
It just arrived a few minutes ago. I can wait to check it out. This will be my first analyzing charger
HKJ reviewed the S4+ including the repair function. He has a couple graphs but not much of a description. The fact that he didn’t have anything negative to say about the repair function leads me to believe that he approves of it. And I trust his opinion on the matter more than my own
That is a good point that HKJ’s lack of comments about Repair mode implies he at least didn’t have an issue with it. I would still love to hear some real world results from users though.
Mine arrived (from 18650 Battery Store) yesterday. So far I am VERY underwhelmed with how this charger handles well-used and/or older NiMH batteries. I will report more after further testing…
With most old, beaten-up nimh cells that has quite high IR values, not only the S4 but also some of my other chargers/analyzers will show really quick numbers and then terminate.
After using it with more cells and switching to Manual, I think the issue is the Repair mode always discharges at at least 500mA. My older cells must not be able to handle that rate so they just quickly ‘discharge’ — except they aren’t really being fully discharged like the charger thinks. When I try the charger’s Discharge mode and set the current to 250 mA, then I am see the results I had expected. It’s a real pity that the charger doesn’t give the user the ability set the discharge rate in Repair mode (and 500mA is the lowest it uses)!
