I used to have a Mudmaster GWG-1000. It’s pretty nice, but ultimately it’s a plastic watch with a quartz movement and solar charging. The temp sensor is essentially useless on your arm and the barometer isn’t accurate enough to be anything more than a curiosity. It’s a bit overpriced at ~$600 so I ended up selling it.
The price could be justified if they had a really good fit and finish, but even the high end ones are really not much better than the sub-$100 models. It’s strange to see pricing like this in a market where you can get an Apple Watch for $300, but I suppose they are catering to different markets.
Nah, there is a huge amount of R&D that goes into fitting those sensors into even a large watch, and then having it being a complete tank under any abuse someone can throw at it.
For example in the ProTrek line they managed to fit the ABC sensors into a thin, 42mm watch that looks downright small vs most outdoors watches. The price point reflects the big advancement though…
Well, that modern LCD is looking much better. Maybe we are too much used to it that new expensive tech is getting cheap so quickly.
Doesn’t seem to true for this one though.
Anyways, after trying to regulate my Seiko 5 (gaining 2 min/day) I am thinking about replacing the movement (and maybe the crystal) on my Traser P5900
How about filling it up with oil, any thoughts on that?
(Not the automatic, of course)
yep
i have a red one
it;s like a g shock PLUS HANDS and it doesn;t look too bad either
not as garish or square-ugly as most g-shocks
and it;s like $40 at most
the ONLY thing it lacks for me is a second hand
then rotatable bezel
but for the price i love it
mine is RED RED RED {$3 at yard sale}
plus the super long band will go around outside of jacket sleeves
I’m tempted to try that oil mod on a Casio like the MRW-200H. They say using 3M Fluorinert FC-40 instead of silicone oil is even better.
I still have to find a cheap source for silicon oil with the proper viscosity nearby.
