I received my KR4 today from intl-outdoor and I am still learning the ropes with it but compared to the FW3A which runs the same Anduril software, there are things in the KR4 that don’t seem to work correctly for me. For example, on the FW3A, 4 clicks brings it into lockout mode where you can have a momentary moonlight by holding the button. Four clicks on the KR4 just starts cycling the aux colors in a slow pattern. If you press, the button, it just turns on the light normally.
Edit: After a factory reset my 4 click lockout works!
Hopefully we get some news on the E21 versions soon.
That pocket clip needs a redesign though. For such a good looking light that pocket clip throws off the design. Sticks out too much.
Wow, Hank. Those look amazing! Especially the Blue Swirls. I’m pretty sure I’m out of flashlight money for now, though.
Maybe, just maybe, there will be some awesome KR4-Ti’s coming!
Not on mine. I placed my order before trit tailcaps were available. Mine has no trit.
Some other observations:
The tailcap button looks identical in size to an FW3A button. However, instead of being smooth it has very small concentric rings in it, almost like the grooves in an old record. Gives a bit more tactile feel than an FW3A button. I like it.
I’m of mixed minds about the clip. It protrudes much more than an FW3A clip, which isn’t good for making the light feel small. But on the other hand the clip has a much larger protruding tip. I found I was able to clip it onto the edge of my belt or edge of a pair of sweatpants easily with one hand. Can’t do that with an FW3A clip.
When changing batteries definitely remove the tailcap. I haven’t counted, but I think there are slightly fewer threads to unscrew at the tailcap. Also the switch connection inner sleeve has a lip at the front, but not the back. It can fall out of the light if you remove the head, but is safely locked in place if you remove the tail.
If people get creative they can attach a ring magnet to the outside around the button. Would also serve to recess the button. JB Weld or some sort of superglue or something?
I’m pocket carrying mine. No issues so far, but since I’m mostly at home I’m carrying less pocket-stuffing in my pockets so it’s harder to test than usual.
Overall, I’d rate the switch more resistant to accidental pocket activation than any of my stock FW3 series switches, but not by a huge amount.
It’s less resistant to pocket activation than any of my FW3 series lights with the o-ring switch mod. And far less so than my stiffest modded FW3 switch which requires something like 5 lbs of pressure to activate.
