I am not so into modding, maybe I am not retired yet. No time and effort for that. Anything above 6 or above 18650 batteries, I prefer proprietary battery pack. As that is simpler for me. And XML2 is not really very attractive to me. It is for those company who can’t innovate enough and just use it for advertisement, for example TN31. And I am not falling into their advertisement. Just see how many are really very satisfied with XML2. I remember someone actually sold his TN30 XML2 and keep his TN30 U2.
I am sure whoever miss Fenix high end flashlights is missing great design in flashlight. I am missing TK75 because I already bought TK70 and TN30.
Just watched both of the videos, and I am rather impressed with the TM26 :p
With the RC40... if Fenix could correct two issues, they will have another buyer for the light... newer LEDs, and higher capacity battery pack.
Patriot also mentioned that the buttons were too easy to press... probably not a major issue but worth taking note of. I hate it when things turn on accidentally and would rather have a light that's a bit of a pain to turn on, versus one that can be turned on by any jostle.
I’m glad that it has a battery pack -you can charge it way easier than getting out 6 18650 and charging them instead… but a battery holder would be a nice option too
the sad thing about it for me (except the price of course) is no nw version and not using xml2
Nice light, but even with the extra accessories, battery pack, etc., I think it’s about $100.00 overpriced. I’ll have to pass unless some retailer has it for a third off retail.
just watched the beamshot video, was expecting to see a tk70 comparison at the end, but nope.
now its hard for me to make my decision, i had a tk70 so seeing the beams together and seeing what the differences are, would have helped.
but now, it didnt really impress me when it went against the tm26 and tk75.
just kinda makes me want a tm26 or tk75 instead since it was pretty close and at a smaller size.
i was impressed when it was the sr90 vs rc40 though!
I heard somewhere in the video Patriot mention both of them throw about the same.
Definitely RC40 throw better than TK75, so should be very close to TK70. And with shorter battery tube, and floodier, looks good to me.
Below is RC40 top vs TK75 bottom beamshots at 100m I cut from the video. For 100m, I consider it is big differences. It is very subjective to different people different expectation though.
Dengoh, you are right about the brightness being very subjective. To you, the difference appears significant. To me…I hardly see any difference.
I believe the difference is more pronounced in-person, though.
The RC40 and TK70 has about the same lux ratings from the manufacturers, but at 3500 and 2200 lumens respectively.
So it means that both lights will theoretically have about .25lux at the same, farthest distance. Will it mean that the difference of 1300 lumens goes to the spill of the RC40, and will illuminate a wider area?
