AAA Kickstarter project / not pushing it, just sharing a flashlight story

2 modes, lumen specs, yes looks very similar!

Very interesting… did he mention that the Beta QR is his original design?

here another amazon pic:

Hmm… I have talked Jason about a year ago about his lights and he seemed to be a good guy.

I really wish that this clears up.

don't worri. as someone else commented in this thread, this product (as a new product) is not worth bothering.

btw the Worm driver is an aluminum pill construction and therefore it is very easy and straightforward to mod it. the new LED board (nichia on led board) only needs to be filed down to the pill diameter and then soldered to the wires. the Worm has become a sleeper hit on the Geman folum and many users did the emitter swap or got the copper or the MiniWorm.

the Worm SS tail section allows the user to install (=glue) a round neodymium recessed

but the grooves appear to be of different dimension and shape (in addition to the fluted head on the QR). The copper QR has a three mode driver.

As an aside I actually hope it’s using a variation of the Worm/Tool driver since it’s one of, if not the most efficient and well-regulated 1*AAA driver.

Yeah, I’m looking towards a copper or titanium host that takes a single AA.

AAA in my opinion is too small and thus not bright.

Excellent review BTW, it’s a shame some photos are not viewable though.

pics from my review:

pics from jason's video (mouse over), see (mm:ss) 01:27-01:30:

his driver board (incl the raised contact pole!!) looks about 100% identical to my Worm SS driver. with the exception that his driver disc is not labeled with "worm" lol.

anyway, nobody cares if he lets the lights manufacture in Lumintop's factory, right? ;)

btw, the same driver has been used in Maratac AAA (latest version, 2-mode) and in Lumintop Tool. seems like a wanted driver!!

Seems like the main thing you are getting is an average AAA light with a Nichia 219 in it. Sounds nice, but I think I’ll wait for the Lumintop version

They guy obviously isn’t claiming a revolution in host/reflector/driver design, etc. The innovation is in the way the quick disconnect plugs into the rear of the light itself.

I think it is an interesting design and shortens the OAL of the light when compared to attaching to a snap ring and other half of the disconnect. It also makes it very easy to disconnect from the keychain.

Less bulk and easy to remove. Pretty cool.

Nice catch. I wouldn’t mind if more lights were to use the Worm driver. I have a pair of Maratac Cu AAAs with the Worm driver and really like them.

Since the QR Cu has three modes and has a higher High than the standard QR, it makes me wonder if its driver is entirely different (not Worm-based)?

That was the case in the past, but these are going to be mass manufactured in China, by an existing flashlight OEM.

Yeah I already posted a snip it from the site about them being made in China

He made the light affordable by having it made by someone else. It probably would have been $60-80 had he made them himself

Their designs remind of a cork opener. Anyway, I like the looks of both lights. Black and silver.

For an idea of pricing:

Pledge 80 USD and you get a matched set, one Electroless Nickel and one HAIII Black Beta-QR.

Pledge 60 USD for SOLID COPPER Beta QR flashlight: SPECIAL 3 MODE DRIVER … extra low “moon” mode and extra high “high” mode.

Pledge 45 USD for Electroless Nickel Plate or TYPE III Hard Anodizing.

I’m not sure I want one through kickstarter. At those prices I’m going to wait abit

I’m honestly still considering it.
The Fenix E01 Nichia is rated at 10 lumens, and this one is rated at 80 for the copper 3 mode.

I think I’d like a copper AAA light with Nichia 219 but smaller and sleeker than the Lumintop or Maratac style.

Made by the same company, but it’s a different class of emitter on the E01.
