I just tested a big animated GIF. Abload displays it correctly. Then i downloaded it back to HDD. Download file is different from the upload file! Clearly, the Abload.de-upload/download changed the file. file size differs a bit, CRC32 too.
Before I started using abload.de, I tried to join minus.com. But you need a smart phone (or other mobile device) to create a minus.com account, and "all I have" is a desktop and a laptop.
It was loading slow for me too, and I have something like 25 Mbps service from Comcast. The slowdown was probably with the image host and not with all our ISPs. It came up much faster this morning versus last night, so, yeah, just a heads up that your free photo hosting service could have bandwidth issues.
I did a trace route and abload.de is 22 hops from me and the ping showed an average latency of 200 milliseconds. Just remember that anyone in the USA has to connect across the world to see your images. More hops + physical distance = more chance of it being slow.
You mean cached by my browser/computer or cached at the ISP level by something used by ISPs like an Akamai box? I loaded it last night on my laptop and this morning on my desktop, though both share the same Internet connection. But my desktop had never loaded that image so it came up fast uncached by my machine, though it could have certainly been cached by my ISP at that point. Comcast is tech savvy with that sort of stuff.
All I’m saying is to take a small, overseas photo hosting site of unknown bandwidth with a grain of salt.
I wanted to pop in here since others will hit this thread looking for a good picture hosting site, and say that you can’t go wrong with:
I don’t know of specific limitations or niche uses other than for forum posts, but it is the antithesis of all things bloated, overly-javascripty, and ‘social media’. Perfect for me. No registration. You basically get a private link for that session which links to the administration for that group of pics (basic controls like deletion and resolution). If you lose it, that’s your fault. Excellent for showing an Ebay seller how his poor packaging led to damage of the item, for instance. Enjoy.
