Terralux LightStar 220 EXTREME 3W

I have a LightStar 100, and it is a good light that I got for about $13 on ebay. I was wondering if anyone had tried the 220 Extreme? Not up to Surefire standards, but not bad nevertheless. It would be better if it had a lower low mode.

Thanks,

Jerry

Ive never even heard of their actual flashlights, as they are known for DropIns for Maglites and P60 hosts.

You could check amazon and read their impressions, though most are easily impressed by ANYTHING better than a oldschool maglite..."OMG its Soooo Briiiiiiite! 200 lumenz!!!!"

I'm sure its fine and is certainly quite cheap. Your alternatives would be to get a 40 dollar 2xAA light from Fenix, 4Sevens, itp/Olight, etc. (stuff that youd find on goinggear.com if you filtered to 2xaa). Good quality, lots of different modes...like 4 or 5 well spaced brightness levels. 250ish lumens.

Or, you could get a china mailorder light for 15 bucks that is decent and has 5 modes... a low, med, high, and strobe/sos. Most are 18650s but Im sure they have a few 2xAAs to choose from. Romisen makes good lights but they are all High/Low/SoS, same as youve got basically.

Thanks, Joe. Upon reflection I don't think it is a very good choice when a Quark 2AA is not that much more on sale.

I have the Terralux light star 80, 100, 220 and 300. They're all good lights though I would say a bit over rated on output. I've found them all to be reliable, fairly well made and fairly bright. If you find them on sale not a bad deal. I EDCd the 100 for over a year without a hitch. When I finally got bored with it I replaced it with an iTP SA1, a better light in every respect but twice the price. Twice as good? I'll let you know in a year.

I had been dying to try a 14500 in the 100 but didn't want to kill it. Instead, I purchased a few of the Titanium Inovations 3V AA size lithium primarys from Battery Junction. So far the 100 seems to do ok with them though I haven't used it for more than a few minutes at a time, but it is considerably brighter!

I had the 220 and it's output was a bit over rated IMO. The beam was pretty useful though, and the body was very durable, plus it had impressive run times with 2 alkaline AAs. It runs a bit brighter on two NiZn 1.6v rechargeables, but still not all the hype I saw in most of it's reviews. You can run it on one 14500 with a AA dummy also, but I didn't force the issue past a minute or so. :)

I have wanted to try a 14500 also. As it turns out I have some of those TI 3V AA on order. Let us know how they do..Jerry

I have a 220, and am very satisfied! BRIGHT!, and LOW mode is a relative term. The clicky is a bit touchy, going from bright to dim: Oopsie! before I got used to it. Otherwise, it appears well-made, and is almost as bright as my Mag 3D Luxeon III mod. It came with a clip and pouch. I got mine for ~$20.00.
