The reason I thought first of poker is because so many BLF-ers are from the US where it's more popular than here, but I suppose the question applies to any other online gambling. Also, with online poker, I believe people play against each other rather than against 'The House', although I'd wonder about how real are the 'other players'.
I'm curious, as it seems to be a huge business with apparently millions of 'punters', yet I cannot imagine trusting my details - let alone my actual money - to what APPEARS to be a licence for organized fraudsters. Yet it can't be that really, as we'd have heard about it by now, surely.. Thoughts? Experiences?
Online poker only on zynga for free and for fun, I am never going to pay real money to play any online gambling game of any kind (well lotto is excluded)...
those sites are now illegal in most if not all states, and you can no longer use credit cards to fund them. few years back when they just popped up, saw in other forums how guys would ask the same question you just did, then within weeks, they'd be several thousand deep, and start begging on the forum for help. don't be that guy.
you can say buying a FannyFire in itself is a gamble, well, at least we're getting something out of it :)
I did play once a long time ago but I quickly lost about a hundred bucks so I quit. I never did go back and play online but when I went to vegas I couldn't help myself and lost a ton more.
Oh! So it is a known scam? Surprising, as we still get umpteen adverts on TV over here. 888.com is just one, loads of others including Full Tilt.. And it still seems an accepted way of working up to being a 'professional' TV poker player; at least I believe many of those guys claim that that's how they started
How did you get on? And whatever's a ponzi scheme? :~
I play Zynga poker on my iPhone but I have come to the conclusion that Zynga poker is a scam. I have never seen so many full houses, flushes or three of a kind in a row in my life until I started playing that game.
No, it's not. Pokerroom takes only rake, which is some small % of the pool money. They want you play and play high, not lose.
I had a similar idea of online poker, so I started only after finding a place that funds you $50 to start. On top of that, they TEACH you to play, for "free" (you don't pay, but the better and higher you play, the more money they get from the pokerrooms).
I paused just because I have not much free time recently, right now I have more or less $200 total (yes, it's more of having fun than a job ;)
It's my referrer link, in case you are allergic to those. But I hope you're not ;)
I can give you a hand to start and pass the initial theoretical training + exam, if needed.
PS. Mind you - ALWAYS stick to the big and wide-known pokerrooms (going with Pokerstrategy solves that, as you can get your fifty bucks only on some of the sites).
EDIT: Just found out that they banned online poker in the US
Advice is still valid for non-US residents, though.
Basically.. did you see "Two and a half men" season 8? Alan does exactly that. You get people to give you money, they tell everyone, you pay the first back + profit and all works well until noone gives you money anymore. The last people to join in will usually be screwed the most.
Nightcrawl, thx for the Wiki link. Boaz, thanks for the Youtube movie, I'll watch it through later.
Strange that these online casinos are treated (apparently) as respectable companies over here in the UK with mainstream TV adverts and so on. Could they be legislated differently here? And as mentioned, so many of the tv poker players talk about how they started online..
Oh well, another 'get rich quick' scheme out the window..
Also you are forgetting fiscal and legal reasons to keep the servers away. In our country playing online is illegal - this way we can still play as noone cares about the poker sites hosted abroad. They wouldn't last a week if kept in here.
AFAIK there are measures to prevent or minimise cheating, and there are players being banned for it all the time (crying on the forums after it happens, that's how I know). Anyway, as I learned on my own, with some studying and using one's brains it's possible to maintain positive results (I admit, I'm at the micro stakes, but I know at least a few players that stay that way several levels above). And as I said - best thing about poker is that the biggest flaw of gambling (playing against the owner) is not existing.
Referral code - warned about it, advised to remove it if anyone feels like it. I'm leaving it to Mr. Admin's judgment (and spam-snipers' opinion).
Also - I can't see anything illegal in my post.
Bottom line - it's not like the other "braindead" online casino games like roulette (math+statistics FTW), and I think it's worth a shot to check it without risking cash. But of course YMMV.
