Best Single 18650 With a 1" Tail Cap Thrower Must Fit

Hey Guys.

New to this site. I'm looking for a single 18650 or 2x CR123 quality built, waterproof, thrower with pretty good flood also. MUST have a 1" tail cap to fit the "T-POD FA 3 in One: Foregrip,Tactical Light Holder & Bipod" (http://www.fab-defense.com/en/category-bipods/id-209/3-in-one:-foregrip-flashlight-holder-bipod.html) Budget:$100 USD

I don't know much about flashlights and mods (I can solder). I have many brand name lights (surefire, streamlight, pelican, gerber) and many Chinese ones from focalprice and dealextreme. The Chinese ones impress me more while they last. In fact when I was deployed I was issued a Surefire weapon light, non-LED, $450+ and never used it. Instead I opted to put a $10 LED light on a $5 scope ring both from China, and it out performed all the surefires I came across (except the Hellfire, Hellfighter lol).

The light will be weapon mounted and used for tactical applications and must be a great thrower as far as possible for open terrain. I like a fast strobe for room clearing (messes with the bad guys eyes) I been looking at the Trustfire X9, tailcap looks right. The head does NOT have to be the same diameter as the tail cap since it can stick out past the rail.

Once again:

-XM-L (I understand currently that is the best LED??)

-Under $100 ($50 would be even better)

-Tough, Water Proof, (No diving just rain)

-1" (25.4mm)Tail Cap With click on/off

-Thrower with some flood.(Range as far as possible)

-Modes: Minimum, High/fast strobe is a must.

-Single 18650 or 2x CR123 (Prefer CR123 since they are free, Military issued)

THANKS IN ADVANCED GUYS (AND GIRLS)

Welcome to BLF! Can't do proper research on my iPhone, may have suggestions later.

thanks

I suggest an O-light M21-X Warrior, http://www.batteryjunction.com/olight-m21-x.html

It has great throw for an xml, thanks to the C8 size head. It has low medium and high, plus fast strobe, you set the mode by twisting the head, then use the tail cap for on-off-momentary. Its right at the top end of your budget, but uses either battery and meets your requirements above, plus you wont have to cycle through all modes every time you turn it on or off.

Maybe somebody will be along with a more budget conscious approach, but this was the first thing that came to mind given your requirements.

BTW Thanks for Serving!!!

Here's a few suggestions, two of my favorite lights:

Balder BD-2. Great quality and finish, bright, Light OP but deep reflector, throws well with nice flood. Strobe is available in hidden mode, tailcap is exactly 1", IPX8 waterproof, reverse clicky.

Solarforce L2P. Pretty much same as above, but host only, so you can get a drop-in to suit. Available in several colors and choice of forward or reverse clicky. I only have a little experience with drop-ins, so maybe someone else can suggest a good one with strobe available. Mine is 3 mode, SMO reflector, very bright.

Sorry, both of these options are 18650, but Solarforce makes some CR123 available, I believe.

Solarforce L2P because of the HAIII anodizing and have member E1320 here make you whatever mode XM-L dropin you want. He puts extra compound in his weapon light drop-ins so they don't break under recoil.

Aloha and welcome to BLF syc0sniper!

Welcome to BLF, syc0sniper! Thank you for your service!

Just how large a head can this light have?

Also l2p's can use cr123a if you get the correct drop-in.

Thanks. The tail cap seems too big. Will it fit?

Thanks everyone for your quick replies so far, I'll check out those models. What about the Trustfire X9 it looks impressive.

I would be nice to have something small like the Surefire C2, that would fit right where I need it. But I know the head has to be bigger to optimize performance. Maybe <45mm. It will have to fit further up with the head past the rail and under the barrel on a M4

It's good to have you here, syc0sniper!

The tailcap on my M21 measures 0.983" at the largest part, and the head is 1.585" at the largest part. It should fit no problem.

For reference my L2-S10 tailcap measures exactly 1", L2-S7 is 1.002", and my sure 9P measures 1.015" at the knurled part of the tailcap.

Hope it helps

it does thanks

Sounds like the C8-type formfactor (1.77" head, 1.02" body/tube) is what you're after. A US-based ebay vendor sells an XR-E Ultrafire C8 for $13, shipped. It throws like a champ and always starts on high. This one takes 1x18650 or 2xCR123. Friend of mine got a near-identical version about 6 weeks ago for $12 and it's an impressive thrower considering the size. Another seller has an XM-L version of the C8 for $25. The kicker is that it comes with 2x 18650s (probably crappy), a charger, and an extender that lets you use 2x 18650. This one won't have quite the pencil beam that the above XR-E version produces but should still throw really well. Since its max input voltage is specified at 8.4, it should work fine with 2x CR123a primaries (forgoing the extender of course). (I had to edit this post like 5 times because I kept finding others that were closer to what you need )

Welcome aboard, Slim Pickens!

Welcome to BLF, Slim Pickens!!

I actually bought a Fandyfire C8 (similar?) from DX about 2 months ago, the performance was Exactly what I wanted. the tail cap was too big tried to grind away some of it with a grinding wheel figuring no one will see that part and ended screwing the light up. I guess the aluminum got too hot and warped.

Yeah...I've had a few mods go that way, especially since I got into this hobby . You can snag a replacement tailcap-I think Manafont sells one with a pressure switch that's Lego-able with C8-style lights...supposedly. Good luck with your seach though. I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

I appreciate the welcome, guys!
