Need a new light. Help!

Hi everyone! This is my first post, but not the first time I have been here. I used to hang on CPF, but spend alot more time lurking here now. Anyway back to my question. I need a new light for work. My original light (JETBeam RRT-21) has seen better days. The tail switch is about shot and the variable light ring doesn't work anymore. I need a more rugged light with similar features. I can't be spending a $100 every six months for a new light. Any suggestions? Thanks.

First of all welcome to BLF. :) Unless I'm mistaken Jetbeam has a warranty so you can just send it back and they will fix it.

There warranty doesn't cover abuse. Warranty is void if you drop the light. Also I use my light everyday, can't live without it.

Aloha and welcome to BLF raven38571!

Is the variable light ring a requirement or would you be satisfied with a simple multi-brightness mode drop-in?

Do you use the clip?

What is your preferred power source? Single 18650 or dual CR123A?

If You use your flashlight so hard, I will recommend the steel. I have this:

Ultrafire 503b from Manafont

Or this, always in steel:

Spicer Fire X-07 from DX

You can put a P60 drop-in that you need (Spicer is also a P60 host and already has a Q5 5-mode)

There is also L2T, but it costs a bit more

It has to be 18650. It doesn't need to have the ring, but I do like the option of choosing the exact brightness I want. I'm not worried about the external wear, I don't want the internals to. My light still looks pretty decent, but everything is failing.

Welcome to BLF, Raven.

True, I'll admit I'm guilty of doing the same. I remember when purchasing an iphone the person said that if you drop it and it stops working to just say you didn't drop it. :) Yes, I heard that from an at&t employee.

I don't have a backup, and I need it daily. I would need to find a replacement before I could send it in.

If you talk to them nicely they may agree to send it to you without you sending yours in. :)

I wish, I don't think it's that easy. I could easily cheat them out of $100. I might go with on of the P60 module lights, as it seems parts are easy to get and more affordable.

I recommend Skyray S-R5 for beater light.

I put Lightmalls link because they ship really fast nowadays, normally I get my purchase in 7-8days. You need $20 for free registered shipment though, so just add a bike mount or something to your total.

If you can wait though, buy from Manafont for the XM-L version:

Or better yet, SKU5720 + the host for $24

This last option is probably the best for the money.

Welcome raven38571,

This place is great, hope you enjoy it.

Welcome to blf. Just go to solarforce sales, pick out the l2 or l2p and the drop-in of your choice. Can’t go wrong and they ship pretty fast. There are USA vendors for solarforce lights also.

I just order a Sky Ray with r5 emitter. If I like this format I may get a SolarForce with an XM-L next. Are there any drop-ins without strobe?

There is an ultrafire 3 mode at manafont that gets a lot of love around here.

We also have a member here, e1320, who makes custom drop ins that are are around 30 dollars shipped.

Welcome to the monkey house, raven38571!
