Want one of these guys just for the hell of it, which one is the question now. The TR-J12 is proven and $55 on Ali Express for now, the TR-J18 is unproven and $75 on CNQG. I am leaning towards the J12 because of the price and proven record, but even if it uses the same driver as the J12, the J18 should be brighter because the LEDs are more efficient at the lower current. Overall I assume performance will be similar, but if anyone has any info saying the J18 is better I am all ears.

they have almost identical power consumption
if you can get j12 for $55 then buy it !!!
More emitters + same power consumption = brighter and less heat?

Ok, if I order the TR-J12 from Ali Express I have the option of China Air Post or Hong Kong Air Post, which is better or are they both equally crappy.
I've had good luck with both and bad luck with both. I'd bet on black.
Pulled the trigger on the J12 for just under $55. Ordered a pair of Hi-Max 4000mAh 26650s from eBay to use in it too.
For the free shipping, I'd say equally crappy, but HK post has a little teeny bit better record with me. Negligible difference though to say the least.
However if you go registered, HK is definitely a lot better.
$55 is such a sweet deal for J12... seriously. How do aliexpress take payment though... I believe they are off Paypal, right?

I paid for mine with my Visa card, but they collect payment through an Escrow service.
I am about 1/3 way through my transaction, expecting my J12 to arrive at a USPS ISC in the next few days. (knock on wood)
According to Ric from CNQ, the 5 & 7 XM-L lights' LEDs are being driven at 1.5A each. So wouldn't the 7-XM-L light be noticeably brighter than the 5-XM-L light since all the LEDs are being driven at 1.5A?
Noticeably bright, i'd not say so....as i believe that it'd take at least 20% to be noticeable. On the meter, yes of course.
