UF-501a switch mod advice needed

I need some help/info on modding a UF-501a tailswitch.

I’d like to make it temporary on on the button press, and if I could make it stay on with a twist that would be gravy on top.

Has anyone successfully done this modification?

Thanks guys!

I don’t know if it helps at all, but I have a forward clicky in a couple of mine.

Here is the link.

You’re basically doing a momentary-ON button + twist cap permanent-ON

This type of tailcap, if its designed so the switch guts are contained and don’t fall out of the cap is patented by Sue-Fire, and their legal department has been going after a LOT of north american companies for patent violations here in the US. I have never seen one offered for the XXX-Fire 501 series lights. If you were to get one, it would have to be purchased from overseas and out of reach of SureFire patent attorneys.

Solarforce offers this kind of switch, for their L2 series lights. I have a TOP Stryker and Ray-O-Vac Sportsman that have switches like this but they were discontinued production LONG ago. Now that I think about it, I think Hugsby offers a light with this kind of switch too. You might be able to swap the guts out of one of these lights and use them in the 501 tailcap.

Heres the Stryker twisty switch gutts… trying to use it in a 501B tailcap (should be similar to your 501A)…

OOps, the 501 tailcap is too tall.
