Knife adjusting questions

This is for those that have any of the SRM, Enlan, Bee knives.

For the knives that have thumb posts on both sides is it generally possible to remove the post on just one side or does one post hold the other one on or are they even removable?

Is it possible to adjust the spring (relax) on the axis models?

Lastly, for anyone who has SRM 605…have you ever completely taken this knife apart? I have the proper tools for the clip and for the pivot but there are two more “fasteners” of some sort holding the sides together. Is it a rivet or just a small screw of some sort that I apparently don’t have the right tool for?

Some knives have the thumb studs pressed in and others have them screw together through the blade, if it is the former you can just grind/file down the side you don’t want, if it is the latter you can try and find a small flat or hex or torx head machine screw that fits the threads of the “nut” stud.

If the Chinese axis models are anything like my Benchmade Griptillan, no there really isn’t a way to adjust the axis springs.

I don’t have a SRM 605 but looking at the pictures online, those two fasteners along the spine are just standard hex fasteners, just like the pivot and pocket clip screws.

Thanks.

I think I might use a heat gun and try those screws on the 605 again. It’s hard to tell if I have the right size torx/hex until I try them and some of these screw heads are soft and strip out easily.

If I get bored I may take apart the axis lock knife. I just read a comment that the axis lock on a SRM 763 has two positions for the spring with the further position being less stiff. That doesn’t mean all there axis locks work that way however.

I don’t have a grinder so I think I’ll just leave the thumb studs alone

Pretty much all thumbstuds on SRMs/Enlans are screw-based, thus leaving a whole in the blade if you remove the thumbstud. You can easily reattach them due to this fact. I removed the clip and the thumbstud on my 605, because the clip was a little too stiff for my taste and thumbstuds would make it illegal to carry here in Germany. (silly German laws) Some of SRMs have weird intermediate sized screws. Owning a complete set of metric/inch-tools... I still have trouble sometimes to find the right tools. The Omega-Springs on axis lock knives are often too stiff at the beginning... this is one of the many reasons why I don't like axis locks... you never know what stiffness you gonna get.

I ended up just taking the thumb studs off of the SRM 6261 as they aren’t needed. Reducing the tension on the pivot screw in that knives helped quite a bit without messing with the axis lock spring.

Using a heat gun I was able to switch the blades on the SRM 604 and 605 ending up with a nicer looking green M10 on the drop point blade (605).

I wasn’t able to completely take it apart as the screw heads tend to strip but I was able to take enough of them out to allow the blades to be switched.

You can adjust the tension on the Axis spring by bending the spring in slightly. Just don’t over do it or you’ll have no tension. Remember less tension means it will be easier for the knife to accidentally close.

It's a pleasure to know you, FishStalker!
