EDC Suggestions please...

Hi everyone

After being unemployed for many months, I finally convinced some gullible organization to give me a job!

Naturally, I don’t want to waste my pay on food, clothing and shelter – what I really need is a new EDC light!

So, what do you suggest?

Requirements:

1 x CR123 3.6V

Forward Clicky

Belt Clip

Simple UI, 2 modes is plenty. Don’t like twisty stuff.

Black, obviously!

Neutral or Warm white, OR the cool white is able to be removed and replaced without too much drama.

Mostly parallel body (no massive heads etc)

Budget:

US$50

Supplier:

I prefer to buy from eBay, or a store that will take paypal and ship internationally at reasonable cost. (some US stores only FedEx etc, at the cost of $100 per package!)

Thanks!

Pete

You could have a look at 4sevens. Free post

A little over budget, but looks good. Can be had with an XM-L or various emitter options http://www.lumapower.com/EDC_series.html

Or this also looks good http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170869709590?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&\_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_3195wt_919

There is lots more at shiningbeam i didnt list, different tints and other emitters

Also I saw a NovaTac similar to the one below for $25 the other day, there are lots of similar models with different names so I cant remember which one it is but they are highly regarded flashlights. I nearly bought it then talked myself out of it.

Edit:
Pretty sure it must have been a error, it says its a “Audio Book” but shows the flashlight.

Where did you see a novatac for $25?

I want the Jetbeam RRT-01 but can’t afford it

Hi all

Some great suggestions so far, thanks!

My favorites so far:

Eagletac D25 Clicky:
A bit over budget, but looks great. I think its cool white though? Very neat and tidy overall appearance.

Shiningbeam
Good looking, great value light. I can’t see if it has a clip, though. Probably cool white?

Lumapower EDC Series:

Well these look awesome.
It looks like the V3 is the top of the range. Bit over budget, but so tempting…
The V3 Upgrade model is designed to be upgradeable, which is pretty awesome.
The V1 is very affordable, but probably cool white?
I can’t see any difference between the V1 (Q5) at $45, and the V2 (Q5) at $59 !

Thanks again, always happy to hear more suggestions!

Hi Pete, lemme work it out for ya :) *CYPM*

Ok, so it appears that to get all the features I want, I might have to spend a bit more. That’s OK, if you carry something every day, it needs to be right. (and the longer you carry it, the lower your per-day cost becomes…!)

The Lumapower is probably the current best choice. It’s a bit plain looking, is my only complaint…

Got offered a great deal on the eagletac D25, but the UI has a thing I don’t like (same for the Fenix, quark etc) : In normal use, you loosen the head. Now, call me old-fashioned, but I believe that a screw thread is supposed to be fully tightened when the product is in use. A part-unscrewed thread is an improperly-used thread…
Still a contender, though, I guess I could make a plastic spacer for the thread, so I could tighten it, but still have it give the appropriate mode….

I’ve found other wonderful and innovative lights, like the nitecore Explorer EC1, but only available in cool white. Why oh why do manufacturers use these blue horrors?

Anyone ever dismantled an EC1?

Any new suggestions?

Thanks!
Pete
