Elektro Lumens Big Bruiser, 3000 Lumens

Hi all,

Wanted to start a thread on Big Bruiser.

I’ve been selling these for a while. I originally did not think that I’d sell very many, as, well, it was more of a fun crazy kind of project, a somewhat small 3000 lumens flashlight. Beam pattern is on flood side, so not a super long distance throw, although it will light up a football field, including stands and goal post at other end of field

Here is a link to the web page for Big Bruiser: Elektro Lumens Presents "Big Bruiser Flashlight"

I do have a YouTube channel, with some videos and info there. Not much on Big Bruiser as of yet. Here’s a slide show for Big Bruiser on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le6sEkhyLO0

Anyway, on the third production run, have parts coming in this week so will begin shipping next week. Price is $149.99. I do have a Big Bruiser Combo (sounds like a meal), which includes one Big Bruiser, one charger, and two 26650 INR batteries, for $189.99.

In the past I had been selling Moli 26700a batteries, but they are sort of overkill, and the INR I’m selling, or King Kong 26650, actually work better. The 26650 I’m offering perform similar to the King Kong 26650. I could have offered the King Kong, but I sort of like the ones I’m offering better.

I have enough batteries on hand for about 8 Big Bruiser Combos, then I need to order more batteries. This battery will easily handle 10A discharge. I plan on offering, in the future, this 26650 battery, for sale, by itself. For now it’s available only in the combo, as I’m almost out of stock. I also plan on offering protected 18650 INR batteries, and 18650 IMR batteries.

Dear Santa……

Sorry, its cliche’d but I like that a lot.

Saw this…. noticed the almost pocketable size….the lumens….the design…. thought i wanted one ….Then saw the 20 MINUTE RUNTIME lol

EDIT… awesome piece of kit…. just the runtime is too low for what id want to use it for

Welcome to BLF

Awesome light thanks for sharing that thing is killer.

An Elektro Lumens Big Bruiser was used to illuminate the wooden roller coaster trestles in the background, just left of center on this years RIT Big Shot (No. 27):

Prior shots are listed on the site, and have served to add focus and purpose to the lives of flashaholics around the world. Here’s hoping that a future shot comes to a location near you, then you can tell your significant other you’re just getting ready, and practicing…

That is one awesome looking light, beast!!!

Welcome to the forum, jmm244!

Yeah, run time is short. But actually, if you use a King Kong 26650, or the INR 26650 I sell, run time is actually a little longer, about 30 minutes. The IMR 26700a has a tendency to a shorter run time, just the nature of the beastly battery, which has a 40A discharge capacity, which is way more than needed. That’s why I switched to recommend INR, which is pretty much the same chemistry (lithium manganese) with some nickel added in for stability. The INR has a discharge rating of 10 amps, which is suitable for Big Bruiser.

I designed Big Bruiser as a kind of experiment fun project. I knew it would not have a long run time. I have been quite surprised so many people have expressed interest in, and purchased it.

BTW, I am able to put in an SST90 LED. Although the lumens rating is only 2200, the beam is 8.5 degrees for more throw.

Big Bruiser parts are out for delivery today. Yay!

Heck, if you could put in an SST-90 in that small package, I may be interested.

What kind of output/throw/runtime/modes would it - could it - have?

I’ve got one of his first Big Bruisers set up in a high/low configuration. I almost never use the low mode. But high is great, it lights an entire parking lot. Lots of flood with throw from the sear volume of light. Over heating has never been an issue and I’ve run it continuosly until the light dimmed almost out. As I’ve read on the forums its gotten even better. Construction is near bullet proof. More than tough enough to club zombies. Wayne builds a good light and I recommend his work.

Not to hijack a thread but, that 3-xm-l module of yours looks like it could be used as a dropin modification to a few 26650 lights. Looks like it could be fit in to the Roche F22, Shadow JM05 and the Shadow JM07 with also a switch up grade for the current. It’s past what I could do but some smart modder here might just up the triple xm-l count here.

I have the warmwhite Sst90 and Its a beauty, not much of a thrower but that may be due too the optic? I bought it second hand, runs awesome on KingKong cells.
I should have splurged for the three XML not that I need the extra 1000 lumens

I can make the Big Bruiser with either the SST-90 LED, or with 3 XML LEDs. The SST-90 is normally cool white, unless otherwise specified ( I can install cool white, warm white, red, green SST-90 LEDs.) I think cool white is a bit brighter than warm, but I sure like the warm white, for some reason.

I also have excellent 26650 INR batteries, and a good charger, and sell the batteries and charger with Big Bruiser in the ‘Big Bruiser Combo’. I’m about out of stock of the batteries, though, have to order more.

Wayne

Have you tested the output numbers with the sst90 in it?

Yes, but cannot locate the notebook with the numbers. I’ll have to test again. Back in May I moved and seems like I still have things I cannot locate :frowning:

I have found that the XML LED works really well with the same big optics, so if someone want super longer run time, a XML LED can be used instead of the SST90. This would be a Big Bruiser but with a single XML LED, and the beam is around 6 degrees with most of the emitted light in the center hot spot, and little side spill. Sorry, I have not done any beam shots. Lately I’ve been using the big optics with the Anglelux with outstanding results, even at just 500mA the XML LED is pretty bright.

To me the beam of the SST90 LED with the IRIS optics is awesome, but at the start of this flashlight, on CPF, everyone wanted me to go with 3 XML LEDs. I have not put up the Big Bruiser SST90 as an available model, but might do so. I have to machine off a few hundred thousands of an inch off the top of the heat sink to make it fit right. Anyway, if anyone want the SST90 option or single XML option, you can email me about it and I can do it special for you.

I do have the Big Bruisers in stock and am in process of shipping pre-orders, and will be finished with this next week (had a lot to do).

Wayne

Would the price go u, down, or stay the same with the sst90?

One SST-90 costs more than 3 XML LEDs. Price would stay same, though.
