Reversible Button-Cell 10440 Modification!

Just looked around for a little bit to find a way to get my Ultrafire 880mAh 10440 to fit into my SL Microstream and came up with nothing other than adding a drop of solder to the button top to make it fit into the reverse-polarity protection recepticle on the emitter side of my light.

To be honest I am a tad aprehensive when it comes to high heat and batteries, let alone possibly plugging the vent holes with solder because my hands shake like a 4 year old doped up on skittles and chocolate milk…

So I glanced up at my workbench at my clear glass jar that I keep random hardware in and a nice, shiny, nickel plated nail was staring back at me…

With a pair of heavy duty wire cutters I managed to cut the head off (with about 2mm of the shaft still sticking off the head) and sanded the shaft end flat, after that I set it on my workbench so that the shaft was pointing up and took a small square of electrical tape and stuck it (sticky side down) over the nail so that the shaft stuck through (to act as the positive post for the battery. After this I just taped it onto my 10440’s button top. (the electrical tape will keep the nail head on the battery and it will keep the head from grounding against the lights body)

Holy crap that thing puts out more light than my Surefire 6p LED now!
Patriot wasn’t lying when he mentioned how bright these things are with 10440s in them!

As an added bonus, you can take the nail head off to charge the battery and it requires absolutley no modification to the flashlight itself!

It's nice to meet you, Tacical Oatmeal!

G’day mate. Love my oatmeal too.

haha thanks chaps!

I like the sense of community here over other forums, and the organization is awesome for me! Ive been into lights now for only about 6 months but I have found myself already tearing apart old laptop batteries for some 18650 cells….

I plan to do a mini maglite mod soon (thanks to Match) as I have a spare one lying around that is missing the incan. assy.

I’m happy to be a part of this community and I look forward to learning from and sharing with everyone!

Welcome to the BLF, Tactical Oatmeal - thanks for sharing your mod !
