Chinese projector lumens?

Well I bought what I thought was going to be a good projector here , but it turns out the 2600 lumens (some sites say 3000 lumens) turns out to be 200 ANSI lumens.

There is some very hard to find spec sheets that say somehting like:
Marketing Lumens: 2600
Engineering Lumens: 200 ANSI

I thought I did some good research on it before I decided to purchase it but it turns out it wasn’t enough, most of it was just going from spec sheets as there isn’t t many reviews of it around apart from some that I am now concerned might be by the company itself.

As I planed to use it as a TV, even in the daytime I don’t think 200 lumens projected over a large area will be enough to defeat (for lack of better words) the ambient lighting in the room even when its all closed up.

The main reason I bought it was it is supposed to have a CREE LED that lasts up to 20,000 hours, where most bulbs last around 2-3000 hours.

I haven’t received it yet, the website still says processing since I bought it on Thursday, I messaged them to try and cancel the sale on Thursday evening about 4pm and its now Sunday (after 4pm).

Should I try to open a PayPal dispute just incase they think they will send it anyway then tell me to pay for return shipping?

I really should have done better research first instead of believing it the specs, but I don’t know what I should do now.

Bugga. Can’t help with this one, but I can highly recommend the BenQ W1060 from Officeworks. Very bright, full 1080P, great colour and saturation and good value for $999. Includes 2 year warrantee. Anything cheaper works but not really well.

Bulbs are reasonably priced too, but I doubt we will ever replace one.

We have more expensive projectors at church that don’t do as good a job on movies.

Thanks for the reply but thats a bit out of my price range, I would be happy with 720P.

I did however see this one at Officeworks that is 800 lumens brighter and has double the contrast ratio.

But that would be the very max I could spend providing I get my money back for the crappy one.

In the past I have bought 2 on eBay, both were high end Benq models with low use and I won them for less than $200 each but after they sold for so low 1 seller said he accidently dropped it and broke it and the other one never replied to emails and I had to open a PayPal claim.

I actually can’t even receive the I ordered in mail at the moment, on Thursday (after ordering) there was a unexpected circumstances that lead to me not being able to use the mailing address I had been using for the last 2 years.

If I may ask, what are you going to be using the projector for?
You can get great TVs at www.kogan.com/au and they’re really competitive too. I myself bought my Galaxy Note off them and they have great customer service. You will be buying grey imports however (but still better than buying a chinese projector), but you can get a 50” full hd (1080p), 3D tv for under 1k.
Well just check out their TV range, you might be surprised. Also check ozbargain.com.au for aussie posted deals, and catchoftheday.com.au too
hope that helped

@ Slewflash, Ill be using it for TV and videos, maybe a little light gaming.

Where I am is a hotel, just a small room and bathroom and there is no space for a big tv anywhere and I can’t exactly mount a TV on the wall. But there is 2 blank walls i can use if I shuffle things around.

I would love a 50-55” TV but at the moment its not practical, although I will get one in a year or 2 if I have a permanent house then.

I look on OzBargin multiple times every day, I was a few months ago they had a 50 inch Sanyo for under $500, I would have bought that on the spot if I had the room. Its still reasonbly priced now but for $500 it was a steal.

Aldi have a BenQ projector for $350 ish but I don’t know the specs.

*edit to add link

Thats pretzy but the resolution is only 480p

I just opened a dispute, hopefully they will refund it before its sent or else Ill have to keep going to check for it at the post office 50km+ away to post it back.
