the most powerfull flashlight with the best throw

Hi,

I’ve been searching the internet for a powerfull flashlight with a good throw. I now own a china made flashlight with a cree led xml6(or so it writes in it) that is zomable, and i can see the sqaure at ~150m
I need a powerfull flaslight in our night field games of airsoft, so i need a powerfull flashlight that has strobo (so led only) and a concentrated throw for a long range.
The best o found is one with a declared value of 11.000 lumens, 9 cree xml6 leds. here is the link form a search on ebay:(hope i don’t get tagged as a commercial representative)

I will adapt the power cable so i can attach a presspad for instant flash. Now, what do yow think? my questions are these:

1. Is this the most powerfull budget flashlight within ~100$ i can buy?
2. Can i adapt a lens so i can concentrate the light to a tight beam with as little spill to nothing ?
3. Can i adapt a Li-po battery to power this baby? a 3s lipo has a 12.6 voltage at full capacity, going to 11,1 at minimum(the alarm starts and i disconect it)
4. Can you recomend something else? i need good throw so i can blind enemies at a large distance(100m at night) with no spill, so i don’t reveal the position and number of my teamates in front of me

This should do the trick….

Fenix TK70 has a great balance between power and throw.
TK75 will hit the market soon.

Have you seen some of the monsters ElectroLumens has built?

If it puts out anywhere near 11,000 lumens, I’ll eat it.

Lets see: 11,000 / 9 -> 1222 lumens per LED. Don’t expect more than 700 lumens out the front per LED with any XML light. With those reflectors i would think less than 600 lumens.

Also 9 LEDs x 4 amps per led -> 36 amps / 3 batteries -> 12 amps per battery (more like around 15 amps because of driver inefficiency). Yeah, lets see some 18650’s do that…

36 amps * 4.2V -> 151 watts. Care to cook a steak?

But it is a “perfect headlamp fit”. Whose head? The Jolly Green Giant?

If the no-spill must be part of the equation, then forget XM-L and reflectored flashlights. Too much spill. Like high beam on car lights. Brighter, but similar spill.

You need to think aspheric flashlights. Those will have a very concentrated hotspot with virtually no spill. The most known is Deerelight DBS Nightmaster with EZ900 die, but in original form will have no strobo. Maybe you can swap driver...

Another choice, just because 100m are not that much and you don't need a specialized thrower for only 100m, you could try a recoil. UF-007 has a very nice tight beam, but about 4 times bigger than DBS, (the DBS hotspot at mere 100m is very small and hard to aim if moving object).

With UF-007 the spill is almost zero, and you can easily fit a small pipe section over it to makle it zero spill (2" protrusion is enough). Has 3 modes + strobo. And cost half the DBS.

Note: both the aspheric and the recoil will project a square beam, which is the upscale image of the emitter itself. Also those flashlights don't have impressive lumen output (200-350 I think), but is the concentrated beam that makes their value.

I have both and honestly I would give the UF-007 a try

my current flashlight has a adjustable focus, so at ~80 meters it has a wide spred, it projects a square about 10 meters wide(the actual shape of the CREE LED T6-3)
this focus is a little wide for what i need, or good if i have 4 times the candlepower. That is why i was going for the 9led version, hoping to feed it with enough juice form a Li-po Batery 3s or 4s 5000mah, 12.6 v or 16.8v(if 4s lipo)
The uf 007 has the same power as mine, even the UF 009 is just 200 lumnes more powerful then mine. i need a lot stronger. can i not mount a wide lens over the 11000Lm TrustFire so i can focus the light? I mean to adapt that flashlight to have a better throw. I mean, it has the same leds, but 8 more, so it should be a lot stronger and blinding. Also, i should see better if there is any one at 100 meters or more, than with the actual 1000 lumns one(but i dont know where to check how many lumens it actualy has)

A lens would project an image of the 9 leds spots.

It's not so easy to do what you think. You cannot just slap an aspheric lens on top of that 9 xml array. The lens (every lens) focuses in one point. The emitter (led) must be on that point, precisely, for the lens to redirect the light all in one tight beam. And lens + reflector don't work. But even removing the reflectors, at best you would have one led in the correct focus point, the other would just add a lot of lumens but scattered in wrong directions as spill.

If you want a tight beam with high lux hotspot and no spill, the answer is one single emitter. With a single very well driven XM-L your max output is in the range of 1000 lumens.

With a large reflector you have throw but also quite a lot of spill. With an aspheric you cut the spill and have a tight throwy beam. You could see if Crelant 7G5V2 plus aspheric head suits your needs. It's not very small, though...

Any other multi-emitter combo light will output thousands of lumens but with very powerfull spill too.

No spill, blind enemies

SST-90 at 9 to 10 amps, with an aspheric lens, focused to a square die. Burns the enemies clothing off them.

Guys, is there an SST-90 with an aspheric out there? At 9 amps? I'm not up on all the chinese lights out there.

Flydragon

I’ll wait for the 10 led version or the 11 led head.

A Varapower 2000 or VPT with an aspheric lens would be pretty sweet. 4c Nimh batteries pushing the sst90 or a newer SBT90 at 9-12 amps would be truelly awesome. I don’t think you could use the cheap aspheric lenses from dx, they might melt lol

Check out this thread for th 9x XML

It’s amazing bright.

I’d buy it if the OP can proove it has 11,000 lumens. For 135 dollars a 85w HID does 400+ meters and over 4000 OTF, can this thing match it?

I want to get the best and most powerful flashlight on the market today,
Any suggestions

unfortunately you should make a decission:

  • best in max output
  • best in throw

… at the end you will buy both - and much in between if you stay!

WELCOME TO BLF!

Explain it real good to acu13gong , so they won’t be surprised when they wake up

one day and realize how much $$$ they have spent , while searching for and still

haven’t found the so called  “Best in Show” flashlight ! J)

Oh and Welcome to the BLF.

Only one… http://www.brightguy.com/Maxa+Beam/Maxa+Beam+Light+Only  also maybe this one too http://onestopthrowshop.com/product.sc?productId=21&categoryId=1

What you need is to talk to Richard, at mtnelectronics.com.

He can build you a TK61 that will rock your world. Because he’s a store owner, his lights are not exactly mods, but of course they are exactly that too. But he’s got the resources and the background to guarantee his lights like few others can.

Outside of that, An Olight SR-90 Intimidator modified with a XM-L2 de-domed will do a mile in throw. There are other’s here that have hit that mile and maybe then some with an aspheric. But it’s gonna have to be modified as there aren’t any manufacturer’s that I know of willing to go all out like this.

WTH, 2012 thread?
