The perfect pair. +5000 lumen OTF

Upfront I have to apologize for what I did. I could not help myself. The flashlight made me do it.

When I got the first shipment of the 9 LED light I thought that it will not be needed to change anything. 3500 real lumen is more than what you need!!!

KD 9 LED

But one stormy dark night I found myself alone in the workshop. Just me and the light. At first I said to myself I need to go to bed. That is what normal people do right? Why I am up this late.

As I was packing up I thought let’s just take a look. What harm can one look do…. Just one tweak… Just one look. Who knows? I opened the 9 LED light and looked at the standard driver. My hopes dropped. It was a pre-programmed step down driver. One that cannot be tweaked without reprogramming the controller. There were no hope. I was relived but sad.

And then in the corner of my eye I saw two small silicone coated wires sticking out of my future product box. The new high power driver. She had no host to live in yet. a lonely little driver. Young and so much potential I thought. What are the changes that she will fit? 1/1000?

With a quick twist of the soldering iron the standard driver where out and yes she did fit. Almost like she was made for this. What a sad day for animals. My heart goes out to all the dogs that will be burned out of bushes.

The driver is a rated 9A but i measures 6.5A in series The LEDs are connected in 3 series 3 parallel. It is powered by 3 x 26650 sells and it has 3 modes. 10% 50% and 100%

Let assume for a moment the LED’s are T6. that the power is divided 2A for each. then from the LED we have 666 lumen x 9 = 6000 lumen.

OTF will the be about +5000 lumen. with the low grade reflector that are used.

I am sorry but i had to do it. the worst part is that the driver has the potential of running 9A. But I don’t think the batteries will let that happen

5-15V 9A 3-Mode Circuit Driver for Bike Light

UltraFire 9 x Cree XM-L T6 9500 Lumens 5-Mode Flashlight (3 x 26650)

I can’t guarantee that that flash light will work if you buy it. KD sometime send other flash lights that look the same so it can happy that you buy that light and the driver does not fits.

Remember to use thermal glue to attached the driver to the base board. if you don’t do that the driver will over heat quickly and start to dim.

I like the 3 modes. 10% 50% and 100%

yes the light gets hot. And don’t think of using anything other than 3 x ” Soshine 26650 3.7V 4000mAh Rechargeable Li-ion Battery ( 1 Piece )“:http://kaidomain.com/product/details.S020470

Money is now being set aside.
On a side note, my wife will kill me. But it’ll be a mercy as I’ll have burned all the skin off my face when I blind myself with this monster.

You may wish to try some King Kong 26650s, as they can push the 6A+ each you're looking for.

Good luck !

very nice! i did a similar mod on the tr-j12 with a 5xml kd driver

i am using 4x mnke 3700mah batteries

i hope to see a similar kd driver for the 12xml lights J)

What a nice bed time story Hannes. Do you have any pictures to go with your happy tale? I haven't seen any of this light disassembled. Cheers.
