Does the protection circuit protect the cell from a short circuit?
I’m wondering if a wire comes loose on my driver and short-circuits, will this be a danger to the battery and cause a flashlight explosion or whether the protection circuit kick in stop anything from happening.

Here are some tests around which show a diagram of shorting…
I tested some of my cells with a dmm and it worked.
In case of some cheap cells which are offered as protected it could be that they aren’t protected.
Yep, it will protect them from a short circuit. I've done it many times on my protected cells. (Testing and being dumb)
