The sb56657 appreciation thread.

I’ve been on this forum for about a year now and just wanted to thank everyone here including the mods and owner for providing such a nice and decent place to talk about and learn about flashlights and budget knives.

There is no judgement here. If you buy a cheap Chinese knife and try to talk about it on Bladeforums you get tarred and feathered. CPF is just as bad regarding budget lights. Both forums can be nasty, terrible places filled with snobby members and power hungry mods. None of that exists here.

Over the past year I have seen people call for more moderation after every problem. A person signs up just to SPAM and people say we need more moderation. A member goes nuts and starts swearing and treating people with no respect and some members call for stricter rules.

It seems the problem people don’t last long. After a short time the forum returns to the old friendly and open place we all love. I think sb56657 has struck a nice balance between moderation and freedom.

…and you can even ask pretty much about ANY budget related stuff and almost every time you get great suggestions and comments!

All the rest of your post:
Pretty much nothing to add, period.

Sb runs the best forum on the Internet! Both he and his site are greatly appreciated! !!

You got that right. BLF rules because it is so free. Thanks SB!

i cant think of another forum with as much freedom as we have that still manages to be as friendly and helpful

maybe too free?

what I mean is, does anybody else ever think of having a fundraiser. obviously SB would have to approve…but maybe he’s too nice to ask?

that’s certainly preferable to an advertiser having influence, imo - not that he’d succumb to any inappropriate pressure, but it must be more work for him just to set ads up?

there has been a few times that people offered to help out with server fees, and wouldnt accept

though im sure there is alot of people who would contribute to that pot if he ever does decide to accept. im a broke mofo, but id throw $5 in to that pot, maybe more if it came down to it

To me, this forum really popped up out of nowhere at some point after I had been on CPF for a while. I don't know anything about the admin or how this site even started, but I'm sure glad it exists.

I’m glad I chose this one over the other one

It could have been either but here seemed friendlier after browsing both for about a week trying to decide on a light, then I signed up to ask advice about a light that I’m now glad I didn’t get.

Thanks SB for such a great forum to be a part of.

+1! Thanks SB! I don't know where I'd be without BLF! (Well ok, I'd probably have more money in my pocket, far less lights, never know what an 18650/26650 was, more free time due to not being on the forum browsing/posting, etc. . .)

Considering how much money this forum has saved me by turning me on to good lights and knives, I would be happy to donate to the forum.

The fact that we can post links and deals makes this my favorite place to find out about deals. I would never find 99% of these deals and sales with the members working together and tipping each other off.

Got to say, I like it here, thanks sb, and I agree, I’d happily chuck in on a fund raiser. It’s both the members and the owner that makes the forum though, so thanks everyone for being so welcoming.

Yup, sb is a pretty awesome admin. :)

Well, I have to say that I believe SB is one of the most polite people I have ever met, (even though it's only been through the forums and PMs). His manner suggests someone who I would aspire to be like, (if I were an aspiring person, which I am not), because of his manner of keeping cool and just the way in which he responds to people.

As far as donations, I think that he has his reasons for not taking donations and probably those reasons are born of experience. I think the fact that there are advertisers here would suggest that the money could be put to use, but he chose to do that via advertising instead of donations. I feel he made a good choice in that, but I don't intend to go into why..., not necessary here.

Thanks SB for putting up with all of us, just a little more than you have to.

To sb56657, thank you very much.

I agree, SB does a great job with what can be a difficult thing. I have run a couple of websites with forums, and dealing with destructive folks while maintaining freedom is very difficult indeed.

Thank you SB, for all your time and effort. It really IS much appreciated.

Be blessed, Ian

yes, he has stated that although he does not get much in the forms of advertising, he gets enough to keep the site up and running.
and i like his style of advertising. very unintrusive

I started at mtbr and, then CPF, and found my way here. Attitudes aside, this forum functions better operationally than either of those. Everything works and when there’s a glitch, SB is on top of it right away. The pages load much more quickly here and links and imaging work without a hitch. All thanks to our BLF Admin. thanks SB!

Absolutely agree with the sentiments here - great info exchange and a few laughs... Great Job SB!
