Tripods for flashlights

[maybe we need a flashlight-related gear forum? luxmeter/multimeter/tripods etc.]

I want a tripod head that can hold a flashlight.

The head's thread should fit a standard 1/4" tripod screw, like this one has: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mini-Metal-Tripod-Digital-Camera-Sony-Canon-Nikon-/190340154323?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c512843d3#ht_2879wt_905

There is this "complete" solution (too expensive, not versatile): http://www.dealextreme.com/p/swivel-flexible-legs-metal-tripod-for-flashlight-2-5cm-diameter-44497

There's this flimsy solution: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/universal-clamp-mount-for-tripods-holds-up-to-3-8cm-thick-objects-14150

And there are the bike flashlight holders, which I am not sure can be mounted on a tripod (but seem like they maybe do... dunno):

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/universal-adjustable-bicycle-mount-for-flashlights-2cm-4cm-diameter-36095

What do you say?

Will the bike holders do the job?

Do you have any other suggestions?

I'm in pretty much the same boat. Well, I have a couple tripods I just need something secure to adapt them to hold my lights for testing.

The one that looks like a microphone clamp

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/universal-clamp-mount-for-tripods-holds-up-to-3-8cm-thick-objects-14150

actually works well enough for up to single 18650 lights, the 2x18650s are a bit too heavy for it. I just need another more rigid tripod to hold the lights. The various little ones are basically useless for holding lights.

The numbers from my light tests are always to be found here.

Thanks for the info, Don.  That clamp looks fine for most of my uses, I just don't want to wait a month to get it. Smile I've had an Ultrapod II for many years and find it quite sturdy. Here it is holding quite a load.

I'd try your local music gear shops for microphone holders - take a suitable light and see if they'll hold it stably. Probably won't be a huge amount more than DX prices.

How do you insert a video instead of just posting the link?

Try the second from last button on the right. And fiddle around a lot. Easier to post the link...

I'll give it a whirl.  Thanks Don.

I just tried several times and I give up.  You're right--posting a link is ALOT easier.

Takes about 10 seconds.

Go to Youtube -> embedded -> old code -> select size -> copy code

On BLF -> disable rich-text (under the window) ->  paste -> save -> bam Wink

Ok, I went for the mini tripods + clamps from DX.

The clamps are cheaper in local stores (~1.7$ vs 2.7$@DX), but are not available in my area and shipping costs inside Israel are about 10$ Yell

And the mini tripods sell here for about 12$ Yell

So my purchase of 3 mini tripods + 2 clamps at DX saved me over 40$ !! Money mouth

Unbelievable.

Don't say that too often, or I may start believing it. Wink
