CREE XML U2 1300 lumens flashlights - Trustable?

Hi!

Anyone tried them? Can someone comment on the flashlights at KD below? Thinking of getting one. Thanks

Apparaently, there's U3 too

http://flashlightwiki.com/Cree

U2 is marked in the Wiki as being the highest bin being produced. The U2's just came out and I don't know of anyone that has received one yet. The difference between a T6 and U2 won't be noticeable by eye since it is only one bin of difference, but should show up with a lux meter. I'm looking forward to neutral T5 XM-L's more than the U2's since I already have a couple of T6's.

There's no way to really prove KD is selling real U2 bin LED's, but I'll take their word for it. But don't believe the output claims: There is no way they are getting 1300 lumens.

I stumbled across this here on the forum one day - it'll give you an idea of the output of different emitters.

I would not believe it does even 1000 lumens even driver at 3A (OTF).

A couple of people have said the KD T6 drop-in does 600 lumens, so a U2 would do about 640.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. So, what's the battery life for say 1000 lumens T6 vs 1300 lumens U2 at max mode continuously using 3.7V 3000mah 18650 battery?

Just a sidetrack. Anyone uses UltraFire's 3.7V 4000mah 18650 battery? How's its performance over the 3.7v 3000mah?

Thanks again

And they dont know what the yield is yet from U2 ... If mem serves , maybe 2 weeks to for them to get the U2 , and if history serves , maybe longer .

Well, it won't put out 1300 lumens ever. It will put out about 7% more lumens than a T6. The good part is it will do that using exactly the same amount of power. It is just more efficient.

T6 also can have a output of 1300 lumens? I thought only U2 can do it?

If they were smart they would set something up here in the USA to warehouse allot of their products.

Image that wow!!!!!!!!

No, no and big NO for thar Solarforce in your link, which is probably around 600 lumens :)

Did you notice that it's 9" in length? It is darn long as compared to normal 1x18650 flashlight of about 6" length. Could there be something inside that flashlight (a booster may be) that makes it the equivalent of a U2?

Thanks

Unfortunately, no :)

This is just another example of the usual KD random data generator. By the way, this is a fake Solarforce, but the overall quality is not bad.

Hi!

Thanks for the quick reply. One more question. Is the RQ 07 CREE XML-U2 in my first post link on KD worth buying? Even though it doesn't state its rated at 1300 lumens but on ebay its stated as 1000+ lumens. I suppose this flashlight ouputs more than the CREE XML-T6 1000 lumens flashlight, right?

Thanks again

Travelmate,

Here's some info I copied from the DX forum. I believe these specs are from the manufacturer at the emitter. This aren't the actual O.T.F. lumens. For example, the Fenix TK35 has an actual output of 820 lumens but it's one of the better driven emitters. Someone with more knowledge will jump in with more realistic numbers. More like 600ish I think.

Cree XM-L brightness at 700mA

T5 260-280 lm @ 700mA
T6 280-300 lm @ 700mA*
U2 300-320 lm @ 700mA
U3 320-340 lm @ 700mA

Cree XM-L brightness at 1.5A

T5 504-543 lm @ 1.5A
T6 543-582 lm @ 1.5A*
U2 582-621 lm @ 1.5A
U3 621-660 lm @ 1.5A

Cree XM-L brightness at 3.oA

T5 845-910 lm @ 3.0A
T6 910-975 lm @ 3.0A*
U2 975-1040 lm @ 3.0A
U3 1040-1105 lm @ 3.0A

Ojgfdkpoijsazvknzskdfz! I highly doubt that KD has U2's- even Fenix has not gotten them yet! They expect they're going to get them mid april, and they should have higher priority over KD, right? I'm going to say that max OTF of an XML at KD is gonna be around 800.

I wouldn't say that's for sure... KD had T6s on the market before Fenix started shipping anything, from what I remember. Fenix just leads a bit with their marketing, and teasing people (rightly so) with tests from their sample rolls. ;)

I wouldn't say that's because Fenix doesn't get them first either, Fenix maybe does get them first. It doesn't mean they will be first to ship them though.

They may or may not be genuinly U2.

They easily could be as obviously there is no overhead time when you are just selling the emitters and very little when you are just putting a new roll of emiters where the T6 ones used to be for making the dropins.

It's just a shame that Cree dosn't mark them at all, but as obviously the vast majority of their market wouldn't need them to be marked as they are buying in bulk direct from Cree or from reputable suppliers.

do you happen to know if this will lego in to the real solarforce parts?

Yes, all parts are interchangeable.
