Some offtopic polling going on again :stuck_out_tongue:

Pretty much everyone I know in my area (mostly white suburb) took a few years of swimming lessons during the summer at the middle school pool. I myself did from 4 to about 10. Kinda hated them at the time, but realize they are quite valuable. It’s actually alot harder than you think to just jump in and do 10 laps, front crawl or butterfly(I can barely do this). Now breaststroke, that’s something I really like, could do that for hours at a moderate pace.

In high school phys ed, I earned the life saving certificate. I could do the front crawl for an least an hour straight. I have no idea how far I could swim these days, high school was a long time ago.

I used to swim with other kids when young. Never tried how far I can go, maybe 50yd. tops...

Last winter I was taking a trip at work, some company visits. We went to bowling / swimming at evening.

Tried with slow pace, breaststroke 500yd but it took a lot of time...

If a big shark was chasing me yes I could probably swim. My son makes up for me though as he has just competed in the state championships.

yes. i swimmed 1,5 km last time i think. probably a year ago soon

Every kid here learned to swim, it was compulsory some years ago.

In the summer I just take off my shirt and dive off my dock into beautiful Georgian Bay, and swim and float, and swim some more. I go for a swim in the morning while the coffee is brewing, and dive in all day whenever Im hot and need to be refreshed.
I couldn’t live in the dessert, I need rivers and lakes all around me.

Grew up on a lake the first 8 years of my life and then we had a pool at the next two houses. I was always a pretty decent swimmer but never competed. I barely see water now except for the hot tub. I’d love to have a pool again because it’s great exercise and really good on the body compared to running.

Nah, I can't swim.

I take senior first aid every year for fun and my bronze medallion is just for decoration.

When I stand around on the beach in my volunteer lifesavers uniform I pretend I don't see anyone in distress and often just walk away. I try to hang around the bikini babes, the uniform works better than having a body like Taylor Lautner.

If I ever go out on the jet ski or dinghy I secretly wear floaties. :p

Yeah, I can swim.

But my girlfriend whoops my ass every time.

Why swim? Is it really needed anymore?

I can’t really swim, I have on occasion but it’s been a short distance and I nearly drowned towards the end of it. I often have a very low body fat percentage around 5% when I’m active and I sink like a rock in the water.

I’ve never been much of a pool going person and it usually leaves me with a really nasty skin peeling after I’ve been in a pool so I just avoid them now; it’s not fun to be ripping off patches of skin for the next few weeks and dealing with the irritation that it produces.

So yeah, I don’t really swim. Shouldn’t bother you, besides without any good dive torches it’s unwise to want to go more than a few feet down to keep everything dry ;).

I can, and I would certainly recommend that everyone knows how to swim. To me it seems like a fairly basic thing that everyone should be able to do.

Heck ya, I taught my kids to swim at the age of 4. I’ve even been ice (scuba) diving a half dozen times! (a long time ago)

!

From Ice diving

!

I teach swimming every week. It starst with kids, who couldn’t swim and after this the training of the older children goes on: Crawl, breaststroke, backstroke. The butterfly stroke is to hard for young children (you need some muscle to do it).

How bout YES…can swim…but whydyahh throw in the distance thing? LOL

I was on the swim team in High School. Today I don't swim too often. Just like to clown around in a friend of mine's pool every once in a while. My favorite thing to do was diving off the high board. I was pretty good at doing flips in my younger days. I don't think I'd try that today to be honest. But then again......... lol!

See my avatar. Swam in HS but was really slow. I preferred skiing, tennis, rock climbing, and volleyball. And golf, even though I can’t hit it straight when I want to I did get an ace once.

Just to get reference.

Some can swim but not too long, many of my friends for example.

In here a person that can swim 200m (which of 50m can be backstroke if desired) is considered to have an ability to swim.

I cannot say, why it is precisely 200, not 100 or 300...

i cancould swim 5km in freibad ~1.5hrs excl 1 break (3km+2km), i.e. 16-19mins per kilometer.

does this make me a blowhard saying so or a tloll or liar?

mwuahaha
