Received the RC helicopter from the Aurabuy giveaway... DOA

Hi BLF, to my surprise, the folks at Aurabuy did send me a RC helicopter from their giveaway.

I was completely astounded for I’ve never won giveaways of any sort.

Anyways, the box was very big, about 100cm by 25cm by 20cm.

Sorry for the crappy pictures, I don’t currently have my DSLR with me.

I have an HD2011 and L2N for comparison:

Unfortunately, the unit lights up, but the motors won’t spin.
It soon went out completely, so I’m hoping that the problem’s the battery not DOA.

More to come!
Cheers!

WOW :weary: I want to win things too…

Congrats!! and let´s see if aurabuy does more things like this

Congratulations!! :party:

I am interested in reading how it flies, that sucker is big. Hope its just the batteries in the meantime. I am guilty of flying some ‘stuff’ around in my warehouse… more toys!

Awesome prize! Does the camera just record and when you get it back you download your recording?

I’ve bought myself some small helicopter toys before. They’re really fun to play with, but I soon tired of them because the fly times were so short, maybe 5-10 minutes. Then they needed to be charged for like an hour (or something along those lines). Also, they used a LiPo battery so you weren’t supposed to overcharge them or the battery would die (or explode [don’t remember exactly]). Also, you were not suppose to completely drain the battery either. Such a nuisance; in the end I just put them up on Craigslist and got some money back. Just chalked it up for entertainment value (which they are when you’re flying them).

Good luck with your new toy!

Hmmm… my post makes it sound like a real downer winning that prize. At least you didn’t have to pay for it.

Sorry folks, seems like it is indeed DOA.

I charged the 18650 (rated at 1500mAh, seems legit… :stuck_out_tongue: ) cell until the charger turned green, the unit turned on with its extravagant lights blinking, but the unit wouldn’t just fly. :open_mouth:

Anyone have experience with these cheapo models?

The camera has a micro SD slot, and the unit came with a 512MB card.
I didn’t even know such capacities existed! :wink:

Lets see it fly :smiley:

Sorry man, it’s DOA. :~

What did Kevin at Aurabuy say when you told him it was DOA?

I would take a stab at fixing it, whats dead is what you need to determine, if its just the 18650 battery then hopefully its easy to replace
what model is it?

Haven’t heard from him yet, I should probably wait a few more days…

I’m honestly not sure. The unit is powering up with the blinking lights and all, and the remote seems fine too, as the lights do come on, but the heli’s just not operating.

Does it resemble any of the models on their website?
have you checked the battery’s voltage, it may have enough juice to run lights but not the motor

It seem like this: http://www.aurabuy.com/video-camera-3-5-ch-rc-helicopter-with-gyro-lights.html
Everything looks the same.

The cell is fully charged (or overcharged) at 4.211 volts.

Seems like a cool prize even DOA parts are pretty cheap online

I can’t open the link from this laptop, stupid virus scanner
if it were mine i would take it apart and figure out why its not running, see what they say, if you know anyone who has electronics experience and you don’t get a reply (even send a second e-mail) then perhaps they can figure it out.

Thanks Bort, I’ll wait a few days and see what happens.

I do appreciate Aurabuy’s efforts, even though this seems like a DOA.

That’s the great gift although it’s difficult to fly it and to control it after flying. I also have the one like that but it went crash on the first flight, it just went up and come stright to the ground and divided in pieces…

Sorry to hear that sid.

I contacted Aurabuy CS and they presented me with these instructions. Anyone heard of frequency matching?

step1:Plug in the antenna above transmitter;
step2:Turn them both on;
step3:the transmitter is blinking when turn transmitter on,then make the left controler upwards,noticed,the frequency of blinking will be more faster;
step4:then make the left controler to default location,you will notice that the light is not blinking,then it’s the sign of having matched frequency;
then,you can control the left or right controler to make the heli work as the method you want.

If it’s 2.4ghz, then yes, it needs to be paired with the transmitter to work. Sounds legit.
