I figured out how to really screw up a FastTech order, so hopefully this post may help someone. Recently my wife got the third set in a row of the wrong batteries and she was ready to come unglued on Fasttech thinking they switched her batteries after the fact. But it wasn’t their fault. Well, more like a possible issue with their back-end systems.
She’s into e-ciggies, and most of hers take unprotected cells. The FT descriptions are also a little confusing, which is what set this debacle in motion, ending me up with all these great protected cells for my flashlight that I didn’t have to ask my wife to buy.
1st Order:
1. She gets confused and orders protected. Totally her fault. We get them and I claim them for my flashlights.
2nd Order
1. She gets confused and puts the protected cells in the shopping cart by mistake.
2. From a different computer, I put some knives into the cart.
3. She realizes her mistake, takes the protected cells out and puts the unprotected cells in.
4. From the different computer, I add more stuff to the cart.
5. Order arrives, and they are the protected cells, now her 2nd failed attempt.
6. Wife is livid.
3rd Order
1. We basically do the same series of unfortunate events as the 2nd order.
2. Again, protected cells, which again gives me more flashlight batteries (thanks!)
3. Again, wife is livid.
4. I notice an anomaly with the quantities and start digging into it.
This time we figure out that every time one of us changes the cart, it sets all the other items to the last known state from that computer. So, if I go into the cart and change the quantity of something, and then she goes in and adds an item, it will undo my previous change.
But it seems to keep track of our changes well enough to where we weren’t noticing any huge issues. If everyone involved just adds items, the shopping cart on all computers sees those items added. But if you go start deleting, changing, etc., the shopping cart rapidly becomes confused.
What we are doing right now is calling her computer the “fasttech machine” and she’s making me email her the items I want. It’s a real hassle other than having an otter box full of flashlight batteries.
We share shopping carts all the time on other sites without this sort of thing happening. Weird.
