Received The DQG AAA. Different Quality Than The DQG AA!

I received the the DQG AAA light from cnqualitygoods.com. Man, this thing really is small! My Tank007 EO9 almost dwarfs it.

I took delivery of a DQG AA light a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed and just had to try the DQG AAA. I called the DQG AA a “piece of jewelry”, I would call this DQG AAA a “diamond in the rough”.

Right off the bat, the threads on the this AAA were a mess. So rough to twist on and off, I could barely do it. Upon inspection, I found out why. There were metal chips everywhere on the threads. There also were fairly long shavings of metal hanging off the threads. After a couple hours of meticulous cleaning all the metal bits and shavings off the threads I got it to twist decently but not what I would call smooth.

If it wasn’t for the reason I would have to return it to China, I would have returned it but there’s the rub in buying from overseas. If it isn’t up to snuff, deal with it and fix the flaws yourself or return it and hope for the best with a very long wait.

Funny how they advertise “precise threads” describing this light on the cnqualitygoods website as my example had anything but! I’ll have to be extra careful taking the head on and off in the future as the threads are so delicate, they could strip easily.

Another problem with it was even though I smoothed out the twistiy action somewhat, the head was very loose and even with the rough threads, it would turn too easily and could easily activate carrying it in a pocket or on a keychain.

Luckily, they included 2 extra o-rings with the light and I installed a second o-ring on the body and that tightened up the activation satisfactorily.

Another smaller nitpick was the cutouts in the tail to allow the small split ring to fold over to allow tail standing were crudely cut and had very sharp points and edges. Several minutes with a fine file took away the sharp edges but still, they should have been smoothed out from the start.

I wouldn’t call this light a “pocket rocket” but for it’s size, it’s plenty bright. They advertise 60 lumens but I doubt that. It does produce a smooth beam with a nice hotspot and the low mode works okay for me.

All in all, it’s an amazingly tiny light and would have been great if not for these flaws but at least they were nothing major. My DQG AA light’s build quality is superior to this AAA version but if you get one that that doesn’t have the flaws mine had, it really is a “must have”.

Hmm, those flaws would really bother me. Glad you could fix it up anyway. If only they could make it with a moonlight mode.

Mine was pretty poor also, but not quite as bad as yours. I did clean the threads and then applied some grease so now its much smoother.
Also i polished the body so now it matches my itp a3 eos ss

Why must threads always be dirty? Takes but a minute to clean them, especially if you are going to anodize anyway just wire wheel them….
