Crazy one-sided bulbs

Has anybody tried something like this bulb? Where the bulb screws in horizontally and all of the light is directed in one direction (especially facing downward)?

I’ve been to several hardware stores and haven’t seen anything sold locally; so, I’m looking for experience and hopefully new and reliable sources.

Could be interesting as a mechanic’s shop light.

I bought one, but worst quality. It has 5 mm LEDs, and is not very powerful. But it was perfect for the use we wanted. It’s a good idea and if it’s well made, it has better cooling than standard bulbs, and you won’t waste light going to other directions (or maybe blinding you in some setups)

These 5630 SMDs should be brighter. My biggest hesitation is concern over typical Chinese lumen claims, though if these really are 10W they might be much closer to reality than what we usually see with flashlights. I’m looking to replace globes that are in flush mounted square ceiling fixtures with frosted glass.

I’ve got 2 warm light of this type, 11w I think from two different vendors. I have them like 1 year now. They can get pretty hot even with the cooling fins.
These are better than the “corn” type led bulb and more expensive.
They are good in wall lamps where the glass is frosted.
The weakest part is the driver, which will probably break down first. Of course the led can die too. In fact one of the emitter led is already dim in one of the “bulb” but the others seems ok.
Other than that they seem as bright as day one. I like the instant brightness of the bulb compared to “eco” fluo compact bulb.

did you dismantle them? in my case they don’t have a direct thermal path from the leds to the aluminum case-fins.
its a u-shaped aluminum plate, and the plate where the leds are soldered is simply a pcb (as i said before, mine is the worst possible quality)
a well built one may be good
