...KICKSTARTER...???

hi guys…i saw this kickstarter project and i wonder what do you have to say about it…i don’t actually know how exactly this project-backing-financing-thing works…

guess you don’t know this already existed http://intl-outdoor.com/2usb-mobile-device-charger-318650-xml2-sideswitch-flashlight-p-741.html

Quickly reading thought the lines I see "CREE XM-L U3 LED (Made in the USA)" should really tell the real manufacturing country, Made in the China.

My thought exactly! Or for a much much cheaper option though with less light output (or another option is without light) though much less durable, see the ENB power banks / mobile chargers. (I just received the 3x18650 Q5 one).

this is not my project…but you are right…i guess the people who backed it didn’t knew that it already existed…anyway this is exactly why i posted it here on BLF…

To be fair, can we tell when this kickstarter idea was first posted for pledges? The original 3x18650 XM-L mobile charger light has been around awhile, but the newer one (posted above) hasn't been out real long.

Oh, and anyone see a retail price for this kickstarter light? Nevermind, was easy enough to find - $129.99 flashlight only! Or mobile charger only for $129.99. Or include the batteries and flashlight for only $199.99!

"We realized we needed a reliable battery backup that could keep our devices powered through the day, and a quality flashlight to guide us at night. After extensive research, we could not find a product that met our expectations. Our mission was suddenly clear: we decided to use our LED manufacturing experience to design our own."

They should have said: Saw that Chinese flashlight and we thought of redoing it.

6 months based on this thread https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/19777

Yes, 6 months for the "new" IOS mobile charger model. But what about the Kickstarter posting for pledges?

I do not know but the concept is identical (not a coincidence), but final execution is not.

You can buy it here

Got it, follow the column on the right until you reach the end of it

Ah, ok, missed that the first time through! So even the 2nd version IOS light linked above was out prior to the pledges.

I'd like to know their source for Panasonic 3400's that fit.

Note: The Sanyo and Panasonic cells are PROTECTED batteries. For those providing their own batteries, keep within the following dimensions; maximum length: 68.5mm ± 0.5mm, maximum diameter: 18.4mm ± 0.1mm

I was watching this kickstarter for a while when it was first active, some person debunked their claimed design time early in the comments, I think his name was Jacob something. He linked to some posts in BLF and that company's own reported timeline but no one seemed to care.

Let me get this straight...they've received over $108,000 in funding for something that (essentially) already exists? Am I missing something?

I'm not sure about the quality, but there's also this on Fasttech: http://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10002464/1181701-jinheng-2-in-1-cree-t6-5-mode-900-lumen-rechargeab

Hi Jacob,

None of the links you have posted meet our representations or contain the certified quality standards we will have for our product. Our patent-pending product is the ZeroHour, which we developed precisely as we have outlined in our proposal. The design began with our vision for a product that surpassed anything else on the market; your representations of suspect, cheaply made, low-quality products only confirm the fact that we have succeeded.

I don't understand that, are they not denying they just modified an existing product?

just to clear things up…my intention was not to be whistleblower but to simply comment and laugh about how things are in the real world…i think of BLF members as “professionals” in flashaholism and things like this “project” is what separates BLF flashaholics from “rest of the world”…

The great design resemblance is actually with this one.
