Looking for budget headlamp suggestions

I’ve been doing a lot of small jobs lately that need a flashlight and two hands, so i’m wanting a very budget (but decent quality) headband that either has a light or can ideally use a light i already have

i have one of these:
http://www.banggood.com/Nitecore-HB02-Flashlight-Headlight-Headband-For-AA-CR123-502B-p-86813.html

$7.99 and then i think there’s a coupon code you could use as well?

i have used it once or twice, and i think it works pretty well

The Nitecore HB02 headband is usually recommended.

Darn, Oscar beat me to it!

I use the nitecore for working under my vehicles. The light in the top position rocks back end forth on my head and is somewhat annoying for close up work. The two side mounts work great. Best suited to AA/14500 size lights with smooth casings.

As a heads up (excuse the pun) this is my experience with the HB02

I now have settled on a nite ize headband strap which I find simply super effective for night running.

Wallbuys has this one : adjustable strap
DX has this one : headlamp strap

The HB02 looks really nice. Thanks for the linkage. I just got a Nitecore HC50 headlamp yesterday which is awesome, but I want something much lighter for my disaster bag.

Do you guys think the HB02 headband would fit an L3 Illuminations L10?

I use it with a pair of Olight I2eos which I believe are similar size. Convoy S series also fits but its very tight and they just feel too heavy for me.

I have this one from Fasttech that I use with my S4. Looks like the strap changed a bit. It moves a little under the weight of such a big light, but it’s great under a hat, and it’s small enough that I used to always keep it in my pocket. If you plan on using it a lot for extended periods of time I’d go with the HB02 for added stability.

On behalf of all your friends IRL, let me gently remind you to TurnThatDamnThingOFF!!! when you look at somebody.

Thenk Kew!!

My “gateway drug” to this madhouse was “HandLights”, which I invented (I think) when every friend who had a headlight put spots in my eyes at night & made seeing (for the rest of us) dang-nigh impossible. I was lucky to have White LEDs, and no hint of the modern multi-Amp monsters to come. Not to brag, but it was quite nice.

Here’s a very quick rendition of the Basic Concept, which you could do right now:

And now you see why I prefer Flood over Throw…

Hope this helps some…

if you need one for working around your house I would get a couple of cheapies from HD, but if you will be in the woods/camping ect I would get a GOOD one

The Nitecore HB is pretty good but is made for smaller heads, and as mentioned above can be floppy if mounted on the top strap. Side mounting will throw spill on eyeglasses (if you wear them) and you can’t adjust angle. Take a look at the Malkoff headband which solves these issues but is more expensive at $20 - but it’s the best I’ve tried so far.

Also have the Fenix HB but the side spill catches my glasses and it’s really bulky.

Just posted a review/teardown of 3 different headlamps.. :)

Thats very budget, thanks, though the light ends up on the side of your head not the front, how have you found that affects things?

How about the lights w/ reversible clips, and clip them to the bill of a hat-unless you’re working under cars…

i have no clips and no hats, but that is a good suggestion for people who have them

I don’t use mine very often, so maybe with extended use it might be an issue, but I don’t have any problems with it. It probably also helps that I don’t wear glasses, which would probably get in the way, and I usually end up tucking it under a hat for added stability. Being on the side of my head doesn’t bother me with my convoy, but some lights might not work as well. I’ll take some pictures of it later tonight. Even if you end up getting something else I’d still suggest picking one up as a spare since its only $2.12

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to post these last night. I got home a bit later than expected and totally forgot until it was too late.
Here’s a few pictures of it with my Solarforce L2M and Convoy S4

The shot of the beam on the ground is with the L2M under my hat, which blocks the top of the beam, neither one of the lights is blocked by my head like I thought they where (maybe that was with some other light?).

thanks for the photos, i do wear glasses but if they won’t get too much in the way this is the best price i’ve seen so far

I know it may seem silly

I got one of these

Used my sons SK68 to build all the custom drivers (had to kinda work it into the rubber rings) and was able to zoom and all that no problem…it will fit any Convoy S series flashlights, really want to get my teeny Ultrafire 602C built because it slides right in no problem and doesn’t weigh alot
