Mini-Review - Black UltraFire UF-80 SRK Clone from Lightscastle

This is just a quick review of a Black UltraFire UF-80 SRK clone I got from Lightscastle.

It is just about as close to perfect as they come, as it pertains to fit and finish of the body, tail cap and head. I find no marks anywhere on those parts and the threads are perfect. No roughness, no grit, nothing except pure smoothness. I was impressed with that. I've seen so many SRK clones with bad threads, that it's nice to have one this good.

But there is bad, of course... I will show you some photos and discuss it more.

Threads are clean and lubed. Fit is snug with no side play and it does not make noise when screwing or unscrewing.

Contact plate side of driver is copper, with no gold plate

LED shelf is a screw in style. I do not care for that.

Reflector is Awful!, rough as heck and scuffed all over. It was plated right on top of all that and it looks terrible.

Driver is a single FET? and it only puts out 4AMPS TOTAL on HIGH! Just ridiculous!

Ok, so fit and finish is great! Lens is coated glass. Bezel and switch cover are aluminum, not SS. Reflector is junk. Driver is Junk and only puts out 4 amps total.

It might be good for a modder, but stock it just does not cut it. With the low power it puts out, you can do as well with a single led light. I would estimate no more than 1000 lumens on high and possibly less, due to the terrible reflector.

Sorry, I call them as I see them.

I do want to thank Lightscastle for sending me the might and for allowing me to do an honest review.

Thanks OL. It appears that the longer this light has been on the market the clones of clones of clones just get better at the lack of quality, choice of components and ability. Not surprising really.

I wonder if it’s possible to stack couple more FETs to bump the output little more

Would you be interested in testing a SRK OSHPark FET driver OL?

I just wish my SRK had a heatsink, all I have on mine is the big silver washer under the emitters that sit on a little shelf that should be where the heatsink is located

Except for the No. of emitters and the naming on the host this looks identical to the 6*xml2 one from the recent DX sale.

I just figured on doing a resistor mod or going DD and keep it for work.

There's no resistors to mod or bypass on that driver, they picked a crappy high resistance FET on purpose to limit the current, rather than using a good FET and then adding separate resistors.

Oh well, heck with it then. It's a freebie, so I don't want to put any money into it.

If you happen to own some of those low-resistance FETS, the mod is just swap it and be done?
