What is the downright current brightest AA light?

I have a gx25a3 but its not enough for the large medical warehouses and hospitals I work in at night.

I assume you are talking single AA?

Nitecore EAX Hammer. 8 AA’s though!

lol

Single AA is only going to be able to boost so much…with a 14500 and regulated down that is a different story

Honestly for something like what you want…get you a good Convoy S series (with a decent 18650) running at 2100mA and it will be more than adequate, and will fit in a pocket (a tiny bit bulky but still very pocketable)

I don’t think he is after single AA, the Eagletac he is currently using is 3AA and not bright enough ( rated at 915 ANSI lumens )

Single AA might be the Armytek Tiara. Afaik, 3AA tops out around 1000 lumens with the Sunwayman D40A, and similar lights from Eagletac, Jetbeam, Fenix and Nitecore. I think BIGBLOCKMOPAR is right about the Nitecore EAX having the highest lumens unless you count those big 32650 flashlights using AA's in adapters and maybe a spacer.

D40A is 4AA  980 Lumens

Why are you specifying AA light? Is it because you have a million of them that you need to use up? Or you just like having a common cell that you could buy in packs of 32 at Wal-Mart easily?

Access to free AA’s at work?

That light is not only high output, but high output for a single emitter light, regardless of battery type.

I seriously have trouble believing it isn’t bright enough. You only have to go a handful of years back and you simply didn’t get that many lumens easily in a hand held torch at all.

Do you have a budget in mind?

Led Lenser X21.2R using D cell to AA adapters should be affective, but pricey and bulky.

“Bright Enough” is very subjective. There are lots of variables. The size of the location has already been mentioned. The amount of light needed to illuminate depends on several things: The purpose of the illumination, the actual area that needs to be included in illumination at one time, the sensitivity of person’s eyes, and simple personal preference. At my house, I consider 3000-4000 lumens a “decent” amount of general illumination in a 12’ X 12’ room. At night, if my eyes have adjusted to the dark and I’m trying not to disturb anyone, I can get around with less than one lumen as long as it is illuminating about a 3’ diameter area of the floor in front of me. If I was a security guard, in a large warehouse looking around and didn’t want to actually walk into every corner, I’d want a flashlight with at least a couple thousand lumens within a flood beam about 35 to 40 degrees.

I think that based on the needs of the OP an AA light won't cut it. He/She needs to go with Multi-XML2 or single MT-G2 and 18650 cells. For something brighter than a single XM-L2 and still compact I'd suggest going with a TK35UE, or an RMM M6, or an SRK.

Nitecore EAX and Thrunite 2A, but I also suggest you consider li-ion…

Maybe a Coast HP550? 9AAs, 1075 lumens on high. Nice spot to flood focus may come in handy in warehouses/large rooms. And a good low mode for close up work etc…

Yes and No.

It’s like saying car ‘x’ isn’t fast enough. This too could be subjective. But often it’s also someone just being unrealistic, like claiming an ZR1 Vette simply isn’t fast enough. Well fast enough for what?

The torch the op has is a “bright” flashlight. With high output and fairly ok throw. It is more than bright enough for anything reasonable asked of a handheld torch.

Of course, if you are wanting midday sunlight levels of illumination, then you are just being unrealistic.

I’m not saying they couldn’t do with more output, but I suspect we are firmly in the realm of nicety rather than need.

Regardless, the op needs to supply more info.

Yes, agreed! Well, except for the part about sunlight levels of light being unrealistic!

Sorry for the delayed response.

I have many AAs due to the fact the hospital I work at uses them.

I also have 18650 and am willing to make the switch but I probably will go full budget on the charger and battery.

I want the brightest AA light in general.

After last night when I could not located certain marked halls in a 140,000sq medical warehouse I realized I need 2800 lumens from the LD60. Although, I do not want to abandon my army of Eneloops.

Had an eye exam lately? (sorry) :)

If you want AA, and as bright as can, while reasonably easy to carry, Sunwayman D40A as mentioned above. A very good light, and surprising small when you hold it compared to pictures. I found at least, it looks bigger than it is.

I havent looked at the 8x Hammer etc, but I think as EDC the D40A is about as good as you will get.
