18650 mAh

Newbee here and would appreciate some advice. Been reading bad things about cheap ultrafire 18650’s etc… has anyone heard of these? Amazon.co.uk worth looking at safety wise? Also I believe higher mAh means longer runtimes but would going for say 2600mAh’s over 3100’s make a skyray king less bright? or would it put out the same sort of lumens but just for a lesser run time before it started to dim? Again sorry for my ignorance

Maybe you would consider editing the thread title to something more battery related?

not the best deal for batteries, but they will probably be passable if what the listing says is true.

no, the batteries would be the same brightness as any other quality battery, just the run times will be different.

I agree with travis, you should rename the thead to something like “a few battery questions” or something similar, and move the thread HERE.

Hi.

Best bit of advice I can give, is to say, go off and research and understand batteries. That way you will more than likely be able to answer your own questions for the most.

I’ve not heard of this brand before. Doesn’t mean they are bad, although there are few actual battery makers. So brands such as this are simply wrapping cells from other makers. Good brands will match cells and ensure they meet the rated specs.

Yes do avoid any battery that is **fire. And make sure you have a good charger.

Personally I think £30 for 4 batteries is a tad pricey.

As for mAh. This is a more complex question. As a general rule, more mAh = more capacity, which is good. However some higher mAh cells can’t sustain the same amp draws and will suffer more voltage sag than lower mAh cells.

This means, if you are using a low mode with only a small amp draw, then the larger mAh will give the longest runtime. But if you are using a light with a high max amp draw, then the higher mAh cell is likely to suffer more voltage sag and be unable to sustain the output. Meaning that you may get less high output runtime despite the larger capacity.

The trouble is, this will depend from cell to cell (make, spec, brand, etc.) and depend on the torch in question.

A Sky Ray King for example uses 4 batteries. So unless the torch is modded the amp draw per battery is probably moderate to low.

I personally use Sanyo 2600 mAh ICR’s in my Sky Ray King and they work fine.

However for torches that only use one cell, I tend to run more IMR’s these days. Efest offer 3100mAh 20A cells, which you can buy on eBay for £7 each. These have a nice mix of high mAh but also sustain high amp draws. Many of my torches are much brighter using these over normal Panasonic or Sanyo ICR’s. Just watch for fakes on ebay.

If you don’t mind waiting, then you can still buy affordable batteries from places like Banggood and FastTech.

hello,18650 batteries,

I’m just gonna go ahead and flag as spam

considering BOTH of his posts are subtle ways of putting a link out…nope
