Closed this due to the fact that the Mfg will not budge on the price at all.
11/30/14 - So far, the factory says 150 light minimum, just for hosts. I don't know if we can get that many, but I am waiting for more info from BG on specs and what the host will have for sure. Another uphill battle and long haul. Time will tell. I still need a price and specs from BG.
So far it looks like it can be done and I am waiting on the price. The price will of course be less than a complete light. This is just a host for MT-G2 mods, or any other mod you want in the light.
I am waiting for the final price and I wanted to start a heads up, because in order to do it, there would have to be at least 150 pieces confirmed, to make the run.
What do I need to get in the way of more info, besides a firm price? I know, the price is most important, but you can see the price on a complete light, so I am hoping for a host for a little less, since the only thing left out is the led/star and an AR lens will be added in. It may be a day till I get a confirmed price from BG.
If this does go ahead, when it comes to modding the driver I suggest that you don’t try to stack it with 2 R100 resistors on top of the existing R082. From my experience with the driver and MT-G2 combination, using another R100 or R082 on top of the existing R082 is a sufficient boost in output. After it has been modded, on medium and free standing, it gets uncomfortably warm in an hour. When its on high, I wouldn’t want to leave it free standing or left alone for more than 10 minutes. The driver and LED has survived 25 minutes of high mode - despite the fact that I had to hold onto the light with a tea towel to turn it off, it was that hot.
I would definitely say yes to this, if I didn’t already have four of them.
A simple ceiling bounce test and lux meter app on my phone seems to show that an MT-G2 P0 5000K paired with a driver that has a stacked R100, at least 3000 OTF lumens. I have compared this to my S6330vn (NW, dome on) and RaceR86’s modded SolarStorm SP03.
In Jmpaul320’s test! it settles at about 2500. From my eyes and via a ceiling bounce test, it’s certainly brighter than the S6330vn, but slightly less than the SP03. The SP03 is probably doing around 3500.
If I were to compare all three lights to a Shockervn, the Shocker would simply blow all three out of the water 1 vs 1.
Dipper D19 is a great flashlight.
My arrived today (from BG) quality is really good.
It has AR lens and perfect reflector.
I’m in for one if price will be better than is already.
And please ask for possibility of buying driver as a spare part.
Driver is really good. Is 22mm. Has low voltage indicator (start blinking if voltage is low) for two and for one cell.
Has current stabilisation and no visible PWM.
It looks like it would work out fine for your planed mods.
The only think that would hold anyone back is the cost of the host and parts to complete this mod.
I wonder how many people do any mods at all to the lights they buy??
How hard can you safely drive a XM-L2 in this host? It looks like it has lots of mass to soak up the heat. I only ordered a 3 amp driver with my Convoy M2 host because I figured anything more than that on a host that small would overheat.
XM-L2 + 5A + D19 = easy
MT-G2 + 5A + D19 = doable, but gets very, very, very toasty around the 20-25 minute mark
If you have a good enough driver with that XM-L2, it should be able to stay on high, albeit dimming as time goes by, for at least 40 minutes free standing.
Right, it won’t happen fast for sure. I imagine it will take weeks to get banggood and the mfg to get together and get on the same page. That is if the wind doesn’t blow the pages away.
