Have you run into any sites that require you to have a bank account linked to your PayPal?
BangGood recently required me to do so. I’ve never had anyone else request it. I had a bank account linked in the past, but I removed it because I didn’t like how PayPal defaulted to it as the default payment option. I really don’t like how BG is requiring me to do that.
I’ve been a PayPal member for around a decade, placed hundreds or thousands of orders including from BG, but this is e first time a seller requested me to link a bank account
Do you mean a credit/bank card number linked with the PayPal account? I haven’t run into a site that requires that yet, but if I did my bank can generate temporary card numbers with an amount of my choice. If I didn’t have that option I would not place an order. I certainly do not want to link my real card number with PayPal.
I think he means an actual bank account number, not a card, which PayPal also accepts. I’ve not seen any site require such a thing. I thought PayPal abstracted all that stuff from the retailer. If retailers can see this information, that would be a potential security risk.
I will NEVER link a bank account to paypal !
I highly advise others not to either. Paypal has proven they can not be trusted. Too many reports of paypal ripping money out of your bank account, overdrawing it and you have zero recourse. You authorized paypal to take whatever they determine when you linked a bank account. Credit cards offer protection, bank accounts (and many debit cards) do not offer legal protection.
An actual bank account? That’s weird! If this is new BangGood policy I predict they’re going to change it soon before they loose most of their customers. The whole idea of PayPal is so you don’t have to use your bank account or credit card.
Once PayPal has your information and has verified your bank account (which they always do, when you link it) how do you think unlinking it will help you?
It’s probably stored on some server somewhere, you are right. I needed to do it to provide the paypal giveaway I did. I also didn’t like how it became the default payment method, so I unlinked it after all the prizes were given out. Luckily I have multiple bank accounts, albeit all with low balances
Request that your bank removes any overdraft “protection” on an account that is (or was) linked to paypal. The fees (profits) on overdraft “protection” are so high that I would take it off anyway. I back up a request by phone with a letter.
Yes, as stated in OP, I’ve dealt with BG before without running into this issue… They said they require it because my order was over $300…
I linked the bank account and they still claim there is a problem. I called paypal and they said I’ve been verified for almost two years. I guess BG is just terrible for big purchases.
