Cheap XM-L2 SRK Clone

http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_75433.html

I don't care what anyone says, but for $21.85, this SRK Clone with XM-L2 leds in it, could be modded and make a nice light. Even if the shelf has to be modified, or even with having to use one of the BLF - SRK replaecment drivers, this is still a good deal for a basic and well liked style of host. Just FYI

I'm think going to get a few and mod them.

Nice price O-L, and I’m sure you could make it worthy. I’m not so sure that I could though.

This is a great price. I may go for 1-2 in gray... Don't have a gray SRK, sounds nice too Smile.

this is no good choice

the 3 LED sit on a 1mm (max) Aluminium PCB which is screwed to the reflector (touching via plastic centering rings)
the “MPCB” does NOT touch any part of the lights body - so there is no thermal transmission :frowning:

Well, take out the LED and driver, put in a thermoelectric plate and a fan, and it could be made into a beer cooler/coffee warmer ….

But, for the price, it might a good for a mod. I didn't mean the stock light was any good, except for the XM-L2 leds that could be de-domed.

you have to start with pressfit a pill in that thing

even it it would touch the shelf (which it doesn´t!) this where to less

a floating piece of metal can´t take a lot of heat

Hhmm - best for O-L to give it a shot, think I'll pass. Press fitting a piece that big may be challenging for me.

Hey M4D M4X, how’s the thread on the battery tube? Is it all wobbly and loose as on most SRKs or is it decent?

Thanks!
FF

i have seen worse - but not much

with a lot of lube it should work fine
but dry there is nearly a mm to wobble when half threaded in

That’s what I thought…

Unfortunately that makes it worthless, even as a host for me.

But thanks for the info anyway!

Despite the limitations of the host, I bet O-L is going to mod these into lights we all drool over.

For those without a lathe to do a press fit LED plate the above linked to Securitying might be a better buy even though it is XM-L only and $32. Last I knew it had a decent LED mounting plate and is the light that RMM is using for his SRK hop up lights. I bought one back in late May and sent it to RMM for modification.

i am sure you are right!

The problem here is that no one can really be sure of what they will actually get. One could get a light with no shelf no matter what price they pay. That’s why it is important to be able to know how to deal with it if there isn’t one and the reason I am following this thread.

Per RMM’s posted experience SO FAR the Securitying marked 3 LED SRK type lights have been consistent and if you get something not marked with that name then you should be able to return it for an Amazon refund as not being what you ordered. If anyone gets a Securitying marked light w/o a decent LED plate we would all like to hear about it.

If you want very good consistency then get the SupFire M6. Some do not like the added weight, mostly towards the front, and refer to it as nose heavy or just too heavy.

I’m following just to see where you take this.

the last few securitylngs i got from ebay chinavalley were fulfilled by amazon and still have the thread in plate.
but with the price so close to the supfire m6 why bother?
i got more just because i had orders for gold ones.3 of my friends wanted them because black lights are so common even though the m6 is a huge step up in build quality.

I will do it as I have done before. If the led plate is not screw in, or if the plate is only the mcpcb, I will use copper discs that are fit into the head, to mount copper mcpcbs on and I will use the BLF 7135 Oshpark board to put 3-4 amps to each led and sell them for a little over cost of the light+components. They are already XM-L2, so I can reflow the leds on copper mcpcbs. I'm not going to go crazy on them, but just make them so they are bright as heck and still not too costly.

Oh, one of them I just bought to use the body for another extended SP03 modded to 6V, for XHP70 leds, but that's another story.

CS don’t see any difference between pictures.
