Anyone have this Cree Mini XM-L keychain light?

Anyone have this from BG? I was looking at this one and the famous Trustfire Minis but wanted to know if it’s worth the price difference. I know the Trustfires are stainless steel, but is that the only difference?

What makes those Trustfires pretty ok are their drivers that boost the voltage using cr123 primaries, and allow more than 2A through an XM-L using a 16340 li.-ion. For other flashlights it is bit of a gamble what driver you get.

Interesting. So worst case scenario, what kind of driver could I expect to get and what would it do in terms of performance?

From one of the reviews it sounds to be very similar to the Trustfire Minis driver.

And i like that it not stainless but i assume aluminum, that would make it a better host for a “hot” build

I usually buy more expensive and ”branded” flashlights… Such as Nitecore, Sunwayman, Foursevens, Jetbeam and Fenix… Which are all great brands that produce great flashlights. I thought I would see what kind of light you could get for under 5 GBP… You do get what you pay for… When I received it, the bezel was loose and came off in my hands… Which as it turned out was a good thing, as you can get to the LED emitter board SOOO easy its unbelievable! Which has now got me buying new LED boards and driver boards so I can upgrade it, and it looks like it might turn into a reasonably good “host”. As to the flashlight itself “as it comes out of the box”, its very floody… The reflector does help the “throw” a little bit, but its not a particularly smooth beam… And as its very floody, its hard to determine by eye the “lumen” output, compared to my other CR123A/16340 torches… I have measured the current drawn though, and ive found: 0.7A on high on CR123A batteries… which seems to give around 100-ish lumens… which would give you a good 2 hours of use on high with standard CR123a batteries. Just over 2A on high with Nitecore RCR123A batteries, which gives me around 15 minutes of light before the battery is down to 3.2v (from fully charged 4.2V). This seems to give around 300 lumens of output, although I dont have a lightbox to measure it… and its a very floody beam. PRO: * Overall, its CHEAP! And it does the job perfectly fine. * Can be used quite easily as a host for LED upgrades as needed, which is difficult with expensive branded lights due to the sealing and glueing they use on them. * Small, and light. CON: * Not particularly sturdy or well put together, as I found when the bezel came off in my hands as I switched it on and off for the first time. I am happy with my purchase. ”
