they don’t both have 120 lumens on high do they?

Yes, GB!

That’s just a Copy & Paste from their L-10 info…

Thanks,

If there was a group buy, I’d be in for at least 2.

Er, what changed?

From what I can piece together on other sites, the change list is:

  • Fixed the reliability issues which caused a fraction of the lights to simply stop working after a while.
  • Fixed the way the clip protruded a little at the back end, to improve tail-standing.
  • The highest mode is a little higher.
  • Replaced the little plastic case with retail packaging (clear plastic front, paperboard back).

I ran into the first two issues with my L10Cs, but I liked the old simple packaging.

Other things I’d love to see changed or improved:

  • Make it work as both twisty and clicky, so the user can twist to control it (like the original L10) if the switch is on.
  • Shorter body; the switch adds a lot of length compared to the original L10. It’s longer than some 18650 lights.
  • Quieter clicky switch (optional, if the dual twist/click thing is implemented).
  • A shorter twisty version with a clip but no button. (old L10 w/ screw-on clip)
  • Shorter timing to reset to the first mode (~1.5s instead of ~6s).
  • Brighter moon (~0.20 lm instead of ~0.07 lm).
  • Slightly thicker metal on the clip, to make it a little stiffer.
  • Bare-metal version made of brass or titanium or steel.
  • Update the SB web site with current/accurate info about the product.

The L10-219 is still one of my all-time favorite lights, and one of very few I haven’t needed to modify significantly… but it could still be improved.

Subscribed for group buy possibility? Fingers crossed……

I’d be in for a GB.

Love the look, but 96mm is long for an AA light.
I’ll keep my EagleTac D25A clicky

No one with any authority has approved or even discussed a group buy for this, and even if a group buy happened I doubt we’d get the L11C at such low prices. The numbers in comment #1 seem very unrealistic. (group buy price of $15 or $20 might require selling at a loss)

The original XP-G2 model L10 has a 10-pack available for $200, or $20 each. These are old stock which needs to be cleared, and have already been discounted from the regular price of $23 each. The L10-219 sells for $25 each, and the L11C-219 is listed at $35 each.

I mean, feel free to ask… but it seems very unlikely that you’ll be able to get these for $20 instead of $35.

Your being too much like your avatar smaller lights…. One persons trash is anothers treasure… I think the orange light, for instance, is a good color NOT to lose outdoors, except in fall, in the woods… So I would buy one, put me down for interest in this GB if it ever takes place.

I have no interest in organizing a group buy; just wanted to point out that it’s unfair to set up price expectations before even talking to the producer about possibilities (and I wouldn’t expect any company to negotiate these things in public).

The L10 series is among the best lights in the world, and at retail price it’s a bargain compared to other products in its class. There may be some little things I’d like changed about it, but that says more about me than the product. It’s still better than anything else on the market.

If I understand correctly, the light is manufactured by Acebeam in small custom batches just for SBFlashlights, then sold fairly close to the actual cost. There isn’t much profit margin to reduce for a group buy, and I wouldn’t expect any business to sell their products at a loss. This might explain why, as far as I can tell, there has never been a L10 group buy — it probably wouldn’t be much different than the normal price.

I’ll take a stab at doing the math, a rough guess at what we might be able to get as a group buy price: A 10-pack of the old L10 is available at 10% off. For the L11C-219, that same discount would mean dropping from $35 to $31.50 (plus shipping from the US, which is $3.50 domestic or $15 internationally). That puts the price for one at $35 in the US or $46.50 elsewhere. If we could get another 5% off somehow, that lowers the prices to $33.25 in the US or $44.75 internationally.

It’s a good deal since the nearest competitor (D25A Clicky) sells for $47 plus shipping and uses a nasty-tinted cool white XP-G2 (or ~$60 plus shipping for the Nichia 219 version, if you can find it, which still has a nasty tint due to the lens coating).

About colors, I’ve heard that orange is one of the most popular. The old models came in a rainbow of colors, but over time they pruned the choices down to only the ones which sell best.

Cannot disagree with this more. It has always been expensive to me. Thrunite T10 used to sell cheaper.

I have a couple D25As, including a titanium nichia model, but I don’t use them because the L10-219 is better. The D25A’s lens kills the high-CRI tint and produces a blue halo, and depending on which year it was produced the D25A’s driver ranges from slightly to extremely out of spec. I consider the D25A a good mod host, if you get one which isn’t irreversibly glued shut, but haven’t found it to be a good stock light even though I really really wanted to like it.

When I get time, I have a couple mod projects waiting and will be making firmware to use the D25A’s contact ring for extra features, but I’ve been busy with other things. It just seems a shame to have such a nice titanium host collecting dust.

I have a Thrunite T10T NW. It’s my second-favorite light in this class, but it has some shortcomings which keep me from using it much:

  • Mode memory is always on, so I have to do a little dance to reset the mode each time I use it.
  • It has moon, medium, and high, but no ‘low’. Low is the mode I use the most, so I must always choose between too dim or too bright.
  • The driver has a delayed start (sometimes very delayed) when the battery gets under 1.2V (50% full) or so, and will sometimes refuse to turn on at all.
  • It could be significantly smaller (shorter and narrower), but it’s designed for more throw so it’s bigger. I put DC-Fix on the lens to make it more floody, but can’t reduce its size.

It has very nice tint though (was I just lucky? I got a 3D tint!), great efficiency on medium, and a nice titanium body and clip. The aluminum version goes for like $30 last I checked, maybe even $25. Steel for $40 is probably the best deal. But for my purposes it’s basically a 1-mode light.

My favorite unmodded light is the L10-219, which is pretty close to perfect except for not having a screw-on clip.

I’ve posted this before, but… it’s still accurate:

I too think the L10 is a very much near-perfect AA light. It’s UI, mode spacing and availability in hi-cri flavour make it so. I am also thrilled by the update it got. What has kept me until now (and since the first batch was made available) from getting one is shipping cost for us overseas folks. That is really a deal killer :frowning: I hope one day I can get my hands on one anyway.
