I'm currently looking for the best 1xAA headlamp for less than $40, I currently have a Zebralight H51 and wanted to get a backup headlamp that has good quality and durable enough for hiking/camping. Looking for something front mounted headlamp.
Looking forward to a Zebralight H502 release but might be too expensive for me.
I find it weird that one zebralight headlamp isn't enough .. I have a H501 and a h31 and I can honestly say neither one seems to ever be the proper light at any given time either ..of the two the weaker 501 seems more useful ..both of them are nifty little lights but i can't say they are really that handy ..i'm now tossing the UF-H2 into the mix and going to ignore the pwm to see if it's anymore useful ..the magnet is a good idea .One think I don't like about a headlamp is how it's worn .Clipped onto my collar it shines somewhat up and in my eyes and reflects off my glasses , on a headband it's better but I just hate wearing a sweaty rubbery band across my head ,,Shoulder mounted via velcro ?? another kind of clip like a clamp ??Maybe I need to invent something .Led eyes?
He wants to have a backup. When going to remote regions/where it is really dark, it is always a good idea to have a backup and prefably even a backup's backup. As a pro photographer, backups are really important.
Thanks for the comments, been searching for the next best after zebralight but it seems there are only a few reviews or comments regarding 1xAA headlamps and I know there are members in the forum who have some kind of 1xAA headlamps. I already got more headlamps than I usually need but most are in 3xAAA format and want my lights for outdoors to limit to battery type AA, 14500 and 18650. I already have the DX 1xAA zooming headlamp but that light is weak and does not fit my needs.
Thanks Robostud5000 for your suggestions and will read for review and availability. Currently I'm considering the HL21 but still looking if there are better options.
Anyone have the HL21 and could comment on the light? or any other 1xAA headlamps?
Love this forum, owners reviews of their light is the best gauge when deciding if it fits what im looking for.
I think the 502 is probably your best bet .Maybe pick up a used 501 if you can . the ufh2 is just what you think it is ..a slow ramp, horrible pwm and not low enough low .. but beyond that it's a great beam ,nice flood, not bad color, handy, decent clip ,nifty magnet, worth all of 16$ but no way at 33$ ..I think if you have a zebra than the only answer is a different one ...of the 2 zebras I want to say i like the 501 better but the extra modes on the h31 make it almost a toss up ..like i said earlier 2 headlamps and neither is the perfect light ..that's almost me being critical of lights I really like ,but if it takes 130$ to make a good headlamp their must be other options . the 502 sounds like the better choice since it has much more output than the 501
Update, I just pulled the trigger on the Fenix HL21. Hope this light meets my expectations. It seems there are only a few 1xAA headlamps available and hopefully they release more options. Might get the H502 but needs to sell some lights to fund this.
Got too many flashlights but only a few quality headlamps, will definitely still get another 1xAA headlamp.
