Hi From Bendigo Australia

Hi All

I've been on the BLF for the past week, reading and researching flashlights, its a very informative and enjoyable forum.

I'm hoping to purchase a good LED Torch in the next few days, most likely a 1 or a 2xAA version, around $50 to $80

or possibly some sort of rechargeable set-up.

It will be used for general use, take on the road, carry in the pocket, something with Hi, Low light settings and a reasonable battery life, hopefully will make my decision in the next few days.

Thanks everybody, I'm glad to be here, and hoping to contribute with a review soon.

Aloha and welcome to BLF Tigerkraw!

Welcome to BLF, Tigerkraw!

Welcome Tigerkraw! In a one x AA light I highly recommend the Xeno E03. Decently bright on an AA but really bright (400+ lumens) on a rechargeable 14500 battery.

I looked up your city on Google Maps. Looks like the area of trees south of the city would be a great place to play with flashlights.

Thanks guys for the welcome greetings, thanks Turba I'm about to have a look at the Xeno E03, I hav'nt come across that brand before. good to see that I have been Google mapped as well, Bendigo has a history as a gold mining town, and is part of the Goldfields in Central Victoria, known as the Golden Triangle.

Thanks again Guys :)

If your budget allows up to $80, I can recommend a Nitecore D11.2

  • Takes AAs (NiMH, Alkalines, Lithium primaries, RCR 14500)
  • Brightness above 200 lumens on lithium, something like 250+ on 14500s (use sparingly), and I'm guessing about 120-160 on NiMH. Plenty of output from an AA torch without getting too crazy (any more and you just kill batteries quick!)
  • Minimum that goes down to 0.1 lumens - preserve night vision when map reading!
  • Brightness is variable anywhere between min - max
  • Ability to extend runtime by reducing brightness (up to around a week on minimum)
  • SOS/Strobe available, but hidden away
  • Has the option to have a clip installed, a very very nice clip.
Im writing up my EX11.2 review, (the CR123 version of the D11.2) and you can have a read of the UI and its features in my unfinished review thread.
(work is getting in the way of finishing it off for now).
Not the cheapest torch around, but certainly a very worthy torch to buy if you were to buy just one.... Just one.... Just one more......?

Welcome to BLF Tigerkraw.

Welcome

Welcome to BLF!

Indeed, just one more will be a case for me as well.

A few weeks ago I was under the impression that the Mag light was the Bees Knees in aluminium torches,

and to have something the resembles a baseball bat was the only way to go for a nice portable bright beam of light.

things have changed, since my last Aluminium torch, which was a fair few years ago now.

A few weeks ago my wife was complaining that we never seem to have a good torch on hand, if we do find one around the house the battery always seemed to be flat.

Thus I have been researching a good torch and possibly a rechargeable one, or one that will take AA batteries, as we have a few rechargeable batteries on hand.

Now I'm in a world of super bright LED lights that can fit in your pocket, flashlight Modding and a host of other wonderful options.

Before I did some researching, I've already ordered some $5 $6 cheapo led lights from Ebay, should be here this week, one of them claims to be a 8w light

it looks a little like a Romisen torch with the orange colored end click switch.

I'm now looking at a more well known brand such as the Fenix LD20 or one of the other brands mention in the forum topic "Budget alternative to Fenix LD20"

I havn't decided on which brand, and still might just lash out and get the Fenix LD20.

As you can see I'm now totally hooked on Led Flashlights, and I'm now starting up my own personal selection of Flashlights.

at least we don't have to worry about running around the house looking for a working Flashlight. :)

Next you will be running around the house trying to find places to keep your excess torches, or trying to find another place that needs a reason to purchase another torch.
