Ceiling fans using candelabra lamps?

I’ve heard that ceiling fan makers are/have switching/switched to candelabra sockets in their ceiling fans because of the light bulb ban… Is this true? And if it is, why would they do that?

Strange but true. The reason seems people would put 100 watt bulbs in that over heated and degraded the wiring. Candelabra bulbs are not made much higher than 60 watts. This keeps grandma from burning up in a house fire.

I got two new Hunters last month and they came with those sockets. I’ll be rewiring it to the regular sockets so I can put cheap subsidized Cree bulbs from Home Depot in them.

I also plan on buying a new bed soon and I will remove the warning tag off of it.

I install a lot of these. With the “Incan ban” there had to be a change-over to a bulb base which wasn’t so heavily regulated and this is what we got. “Candelabra” and other “special purpose” bulbs were exempted from the ban so that the fixtures using them would not be instantly unusable once the shelf-stock of bulbs was sold. _ Be aware that there are some which use a proprietary bulb type, best to avoid those as the bulbs will become unavailable at some point _ Most fans now have a potted box wired in that is supposed to prevent over-current smoke & flames. I’m not sure what’s in there but they sometimes fail. You can bypass it safely so long as you stay with the original bulb wattage.

Many old dead fans have good E27 base light kits and I now save those as most of them can be directly fitted to the newer fan units. Pop in E27 CFL’s or LED’s and you’re good to go: more light less money

But the consumer could put in a CFL or LED lamp in. Why would the manufacturer want the consumer to use incandescent lamps?

Some ceiling fans even come with CFLs.

They always bundle the cheap incans with bulbs; I’ve never seen a fan that came with CFLs. I’ve had to purchase the overpriced, short-lived, slow-startup candelabra based CFLs myself. For some reason, these are never as good as the standard E27 base bulbs.

I purchased a five pack of candelabra LED bulbs from an eBay seller a while back and they’ve been fairly good, but I use them in the bedroom where they see less use. They were advertised as being 10W, I wanted less, but I suspected inflated Chinese wattage and ordered anyway. My suspicions were correct, and they were only 5W. These are decent with 5 1W emitters and a real driver instead of being the normal cheap corn lights…

Got a link?
Need some decent ones. CFL’s burn out quick, tried all major brands, they all suck.
Thanks

I bought a six pack of the warm white 10W from this listing:

I’ve been using them for about 2 months with no issues. They have five old fried egg style 1W emitters each. Color is okay, but the could use a little help with improving the thermal path. At least there actually is a heatsink. Mine have not been modded in any way.
