What is it about Convoy flashlights that makes them so popular?

The Convoy brand seems to get a mention quite a lot on BLF.

Is it the quality, the price or ease of modding that makes it live on?

Yes.

All of the above…and also an owner (Simon) that provides excellent service.

Not to mention that Simon actually responds to what we want! He has made and is in the process of making a few flashlights because BLF members talked him into them. Simon takes a risk on us. He reportedly lost money on the original L2 but has still made a new L2 for us and is working on an even better v3 L2 for us.

Being truly responsive to our desires is awesome and priceless imho. Sure we have had some customized groupbuy lights but those required us to be committed to sales of several hundred first. Simon deserves the popularity. His quality is top notch and above the price he charges. Due to this his profit margin is not great but he does not compromise.

I just received my first ever Convoy, a titangrey S2+ (not modded yet).

Quite amazing piece of gear given the price, quality is very high, I love the threads and the overall fit & finish.

I wish there was a smaller 1xAA EDC Convoy out there with the same quality.

cheap BUT reliable

Cheap, durable and dependable,That my opinion for Convoy light.

I like my red S2, it has the smoothest tail threads of any lights that I have, just perfect, even better than those that cost more and have much higher MSRP/MAP, in fact, none of my lights have smooth threads despite there being some that are not your usual budget lights, at least not compared to S2.

Looking forward to his new projects, especially headlamp for 2016 and perhaps we can talk him into AA/14500 light?

Simon is doing a headlamp? :open_mouth:

Agreed with all of the above. Convoy is the benchmark that I compare other lights to.

Simon is a real person, not a corporation.
Simon knows what he is selling.

I think the price of convoy flashlight is cheap,so it can make them popular.

Price tag alone is not why we like them… read above.

Perhaps there is better quality than Convoy, but you’ll pay buckets more for it and not end up with a lot better. Built by someone who knows what a really good light is and cares enough to maintain that standard while selling at a very reasonable price.

Phil

Cheap while maintaining quality.

No other company maintains quality at this price level - particularly manufacturers like Manker and ThorFire have far inferior quality at the same price point.

I just got some blue hosts, and I gotta say, beautiful hosts with a super slick metal clicky. Goes far beyond a bargain priced host.

I believe the correct word you should be using is “affordable”. Why yes, I am a Convoy fanboy.

As for ThorFire, I wouldn’t call their products inferior. They had a few kinks to work out on their C8 and mode order on their penlights. After consulting with Old Lumens, they have pretty much fixed what’s was wrong. Their C8 now has a proper driver and a screw in pill. Their other lights are of nice quality.

ThorFire also has some real nice AA and AAA lights which sets them apart from Convoy. Why yes, I am also a ThorFire fanboy too.

I might sound dumb but who is Simon?

It’s the Three Qs.
Quality, Quality, and Quality.

My three Convoy hosts have the kind of quality you can see/feel/appreciate. Very well built, very well machined, very well anodized.

Dont worry.
Simon is the owner/the man behind convoy.
