Thorfire PF03 Review - 1 x AAA XP-G2, 110 lumens

Thorfire PF03

I received a Thorfire PF03 to review. As always the light came in a nicely padded box with a spare o-ring. I appreciate this after receiving so many lights in a cheap flimsy crushed box.

My first impressions was this is absolutely tiny! When it’s in my pocket, I barely tell it’s there. The build quality seems very good. Anodizing on this light looks flawless and really feels great.

Threads are not quite square but they are anodized and are super smooth. The thickness of the tube is quite beefy and feels solid. The button on the switch requires quite a bit of pressure to turn on the light. But I’d rather this than having it accidentally turn on.

When I was first asked to do a review on the light, I honesty wasn’t very excited. Pretty much all of my lights are 1000 lumens + and I already EDC a S2+. 110 lumens just didn’t sound like it would be very useful to me. However I was wrong. I love this light and form factor! The truth is that I mostly use my EDC in the lower modes. The Thorfire PF03 on max mode is a lot brighter than I thought it would be. It is more than bright enough for most of my daily needs. I know that Thorfire’s output sepcs are always pretty spot on, but I’m surprised it is only rated a 110LM. Looks like my internal light meter (my eyes) don’t work work very well.

The beam profile is super smooth and largely artifact free. The beam is very similar to my S2+ and BLF A6. With a nimh on high, the light never really seems to get hot. I have not tried a li-ion because I don’t have one.

And ahhh the moonlight mode…it’s just amazing. That’s one thing Thorfire always seems to nail; it’s gorgeous and very useful to me. The light has no memory and always come on in moonlight mode. The next mode is Max and the last mode is medium. This order just suits me perfectly.

All in all I really like this light. It has opened my eyes to a new form factor that I did not consider before. I used to think that my S2+ was small and light enough to be unintrusive. But the truth is that I never really forget it’s in my pocket. It might not get in the way, but I can always feel that it’s there. With the PF03 I don’t feel a thing; it is 100% unintrusive. Now my kids are fighting over who gets it.

Thanks for the review! Looks like a nice little light

I think I will try a Thorfire light. never had one but this review (and others) always say what a great brand it is.
quality looks really good.

Very nice review. This is a ok little light, but I’d say the switch is too stiff and the tint is too cool/blue.

I have one coming from Banggood, nice review.
