LED Lenser M1 battery Query

I’m looking at getting the LED Lenser M1, does anyone know if I can use rechargeable batteries with it, most of them seem to 3.7v as opposed to the 3.0v of the standard CR123 or will it damage the torch.
I know you can get rechargeable ones that are the 3.0v but they require a special charger and I’ve heard they don’t last very long.

Any help or comments appreciated, I’m comparing this to the Coast HP1 which may possibly end up as my preferred simply because you can use 14500’s in it although I believe the M1 has a narrower focus to it which I’d probably prefer as I’ll be using it for some shooting.

Any help much appreciated!!

I accidentally put a 14500 in the Lenser 5.2 that I had not modified to take it, and it destroyed the driver. (I fixed it with the driver swapped out of the other one.) So the 5.2 can’t run with a lithium cell like SK68s do. There is less difference between CR123a and Lithium ion than between AA and lithium, so maybe it will work, but as far as I know it would be a risk.

I’ve been running my LED Lenser M1 on a rechargeable 16340. All modes work perfectly.

However, I just tried swapping in a 3.0 volt CR123 cell… the light barely lit up. Basically it now ONLY works on rechargeables.

I just spoke to one of the large online torch retailers in the UK and they said LED Lenser have said they shouldn’t be used with the 16340’s. How long have you been using yours like that … if it was a case of if I’ve done it once I couldn’t go back then I would but if it was going to damage the torch then I wouldn’t and it’s a fairly expensive gamble to take.

In a way the damage is good. If it barely lights up at 3 V., then it won’t ruin 16340s by running them down too far before you notice.
