This guy is tearing apart some LED bulbs to make a 8 segments display.
I find it really fun and might do a project with these 
we got some of the filament LED bulbs:
They look real nice, also when they are off.
In our old house we have several light elements with glass panes so the bulbs can be seen very clear.
